  • FCP X is out – so did anyone find the XML feature?

Posted by Vladimir Kucherov on June 21, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I have not bought it, but I opened up the online manual for the fresh FCPx and did a search for terms “XML” “EDL” and “OMF” – all 3 produced 0 results. Are we in trouble?

EDIT: AutoDuck has an “exclusive” FCPX > OMF plugin they are selling.

    Also from the MacWorld article:

“Apple says it is working with third-party developers to deliver additional media asset management and automation options to Final Cut Pro X.”

Unfortunately at this time “Round Tripping” will not work with FCP X. We are continuing to work closely with Apple on future compatibility enhancements.

This feature should continue to work for FCP 7.

What’s the difference between God and Apple ?

“God doesn’t act like if he was Apple.” (Don’t know if we say that in english, in french yes)

I’m so, so, disapointed. This FCPx is useless.

I bought it, full well knowing that it was $300 for educational use and that getting any work done in it is not going to happen.

There’s no XML, in or out. Nor EDL. XML I have hope for. EDL, I’d say it’s a good bet will never happen.

There is also no video card support. Between the two, XML and video out, I can barely believe it…I think they needed to get this going before release.

I also went digging in the bundles/folders containing the FCPX projects, hoping that the file that actually contains the Project was simply just an XML file. Not the case.

Other than the fact that there’s some really important big things missing, the program is really cool and forward thinking, and I look forward to using it. But it’s going to be a while.

If only Apple had paid attention to awesomeness of how well Black Magic released the Mac version of Davnici Resolve last year. A lot of pain and suffering could have been avoided on their customer base.

The FCPX release yet again makes me fully appreciate how effective and customer-focused the Resolve team is.

FCPx contains code for XML as well as Python scripting capabilities. There is no GUI for it, but third party developers will be able to use that to build additional features for their products. An example of that would be something like BM building “send to Resolve” button right inside the FCPx. No EDL or XML needed.
So, everyone, who’s predicting that sky is falling, relax and allow Apple and third party developers a bit more time to roll out the additional functionality…

I always assumed this was coming. Just surprised it wasn’t polished from the get go. What confuses me is why did they HAVE to release FCPx now? Sure everyone was tired of FCP, but the people who are most tired of FCP and it’s slow architecture are people who can’t use FCPx without proper I/O tools. Why not release FCPx in 3-6 months with all these nice features and great fanfare? It feels as if they’re suffering at least some bad PR right now.

This seems to be just as forward thinking as the rest of FCP X, and I believe you, but can I ask how you know?

Public reading, or just of the record beers at NAB?

In some point all seems sensible to me with apple and fcpx.

All io boards have theyr tape and vcr controller software. And probably soon all will have roundtrip buttons
as atomatic duck has now for protools.

Just give it some time and all will be fine.

Just wait and read little about it and when it is “ready” jump in.

Till then enjoy your Resolve and do not stress about apple.

Exactly, Its awesome that Blackmagic now gave (will give;) us a working XMl workflow while the product they initially developed it is fading out.
But generally speaking, a tighter Send-To integration is what we really need.
Thats is where Adobe shines, that is where time is lost today.
I just bought FCPx just to learn and get into it, projects will come in fall , I am sure.
And maybe Apple uses IBC to show of some pro things.
This version now is for the masses, and it will boost Lion sales.
