And if that doesn’t work, you can drop the clip into the browser in FCP, select it. Go to the Modify drop down menu, select timecode, make sure the box for Source TC is checked, then type in the same start time as the original timeline or clip.
BTW make sure the clip is on the first frame, otherwise the TC you type in will be set to the point at which the clip wiper is sitting. This is actually a good thing, because if you know the timecode of a certain but not the start timeof the clip you can park the wiper on the known frame, input timecode and you’re good to go.

I’ve been using the new FCS since the first week it was released. As usual tried it out on my laptop first, things went so well and a few of the features were so compelling for my workflow that I upgraded my work machine, in the middle of delivering a show. Not something I usually do, actually cloned to an external drive and installed FCS there in case I had to back pedal. Opened the one hour show from FCP 6.06 and all was good, in a couple of days swapped drives so the clone was now the internal and haven’t looked back. We’ve finished two shows now and are on the third.
This isn’t the sexiest upgrade but the timesavers and workflow enhancements are worth the price of admission. I really like the following.
1. Share export- Made one off DVDs and small movies for review without locking me out of my machine. 90% of my dvds are review or just need simple menus and this works great. Love being able to put chapters in and give them names from the timeline.

2. Markers- Love the color coding and the ability to drop markers while the timeline is playing. Searching for named makers means I don’t have to zoom out so much to find places on my timeline. Being able to drag them is also nice. As annoying as it can be when I’m trying to drag a maker, its nice to be able to delete a marker by dragging it off the timeline.

3. Droplets- I have to make a variety of different types movies when I’m delivering a show. I’ve got custom settings in Compressor, but now I keep droplets for the diffent versions I need to make on the desktop and drop the files onto them and off they go.

4. ProRess4444- Animations with alphas are now much smaller 265mb instead of over a gig and they play on the timeline without rendering, very nice

5. Misc- speed changing is now fun, and works very intuitively. Ripple training has a good free tutorial. Reveal affiliate clips and batch transitions.

So, like I said, not the sexiest but some excellent timesavers.
My two cents, I believe Apple released this before Snow Leopard to give us some great tools, now without tying it to any issues with SL. Once SL is released, I’m guessing a great .5 upgrade shortly thereafter, hopefully around NAB. They’ve done it before, it won’t surprse me if they do it again.

I get the same thing, and I don’t have my system sounds sent to the Lhi. It was bad for a while but its only once in a while now.

We’ve been using this same scenario for four years now, twenty episodes per year. People are definitely able to go back and reopen projects from the past. The one thing I would add is after you’ve made you’re MM version go into the browser and check the source for all the clips, make sure they’re in the MM media folder. I’ve found that ocassionally MM will not grab certain clips or graphics and I just manually move them, though to be honest in the last version of FCP that stopped being a problem, I just check out of habit.

I bring in OMFs of 1 hr shows to Digital Performer at least twice a month and have never had a problem like that. Never use gain or pan on output.

First thing I did when I got my copy was pop the disc into one of our old G5s, hit install and it immediately told me: Intel needed to install, end of that.

I followed the directions, uninstalled old drivers first and I use the NDD version, don’t need that feature so its one less potential problem area.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was my Lhi card as its had a problem from day 1 outputting a clean signal when I upconvert from 720p to 1080i. It does all rest of the up, down and cross converts both in and out perfectly,just isn’t able to output from 720 to 1080 cleanly. The video looks like the fields are all wront, lots of jaggies on edges.
Talked to AJA a couple of times and have not got a resolution yet.
That’s why I’m wondering if its just me or do other people have this pro res problem.

From my limited testing 72p proxy, LT and regular ProRes need to have the video output set to bit. 1080i needs to be set to 10 bit. Kind of strange. I’m interested if other people have run across the same thing.
