I’m pretty sure you have chosen the wrong codec for output in AE. There are dozens of them already on your machine and it’s easy to get things wrong. I’d use uncompressed 4:2:2, if you have a fast disk (or array for HD).
Rest assured, a MacPro can handle this, I’m working that way every day.

IMHO, G Chroma Sharpen IS the PAL G Nicer. And, yes, I can see the difference as well, in particular after CC.

And G Chroma Sharpen works very well for me, being in PALandia.

ReTimer is a bit cheaper in SD and far more expensive in HD. Twixtor does HD in all versions.

February 5, 2007 at 8:40 am in reply to: JVC GY-HD250u with HD-sdi port- anyone know a drive system for Uncom HD??That system is already here: https://www.digitalvideo.de/dvc/htm/english/products/megacine.htm
Developed by Fraunhofer, the same folks who brought us MP3, and it works very well. It’s an array of lots of 2.5″ harddisks. We have been using it with a Canon H1, P&S adapter and cine primes, and the quality blew folks away. It came close to Cine Alta under carefully controlled lighting.
But we are talking mucho $$$$ here…

February 4, 2007 at 11:20 am in reply to: Dropped frames when capturing DVCAM video to MacBook ProWith all due respect, Shane, but I think Emma is on the right track.
I’ve even found capturing to the internal drives (starting with my old trusted Titanium up to a current MB and MBP) to be more reliable than capturing from one FW device (the camera/recorder) to another one (the disk) on the same FW bus. That’s why so many folks bought FW cards for the PCMCIA slot only to separate FW buses.
I’d also suppose Spotlight to be the culprit, one should set the video folder to ‘private’.

Since FCP can control a machine via FireWire while ingesting over another input, like the Kona card, I’d also suggest capturing fresh from the tapes right into DVCProHD. Everything else, like Compressor or AEFX will take much longer.

Apart from that, DVDSP is not flagging progressive flags correctly. You can check it with ReStream (PC only).

Sending a Soundtrack Pro project is for the whole timeline. A single, independent track can only be sent to the waveform editor in STP.
You may want to check out the excellent articles and videos on STP at http://www.kenstone.net .

The HVX200 is a very flexible and therefore very complex device. Some formats (native) don’t even stream over FW, for others you have to get your settings straight. Plus, FCP 5.1.2 has improved a lot on MXF, the native format from the HVX200.
Tell us a bit more about your setup:
Which format did you shoot?
What’s the playback setup in the camera?
Which settings did you use in FCP?Regards,
Uli
