If you are talking about DVcProHD, there’s no problem. The codec is called 720p50, but it’ll work with 25fps in the TL without rendering.

That’s all pure fiction, if anybody here would know, they couldn’t even tell you that they do, let alone what they know.
So, just to add to speculations, we might also see a split in the line of the products: something like Final Cut Studio 5.5 just adding minor improvements plus some bug fixes (DVDSP and Compressor need them desperately!) and then Final Cut Extreme 1.0, which might very well be limited to MacTels. Think about Final Touch, that didn’t come cheap and will probably soon be integrated into an Apple product. Or think about mixing different formats in the timeline in realtime

Seems to work better than on older Apple laptops now. But if you experience problems, use the internal disk. Other than in the iBook, it’s pretty easy to swap the internal drive for a faster and bigger model.

DV Matte Blast for Motion is great, realtime keying!
In that price range, I don’t know anything better. You can always ask for Ultimatte Advantage, but watch out, it doesn’t yet work with current FCP 😉

There’s Flix Exporter and it can give you SWF or FLV, right out of FCP. Great quality!

Sorry to pour some water in the wine, but the Matrox is not going to make an Apple 23″ LCD look like a CC station. We hooked it to a JVC 17″ HD tube and that is a good CC station!
The MXO itself is a great little device. The best thing about it for a mobile editor: You can walk into the clients studio or rent a deck and play your footage straight onto DVCProHD or HDCam tapes.Regards,

In FCP 5.1.2 there’s a new filter that does a directional blur. A value of 3 sounds pretty high, BTW, but then I never use Gaussian blur for this purpose.
No, you don’t need to go the save as QT route, you can switch your timeline for a better codec and go directly into Compressor. But give those demos a try, there are better encoders than Apples.

Have a look at Graeme Nattress’ G Film filters. But I hope you know that the ‘film look’ comes from many more factors than just some filtering, don’t you? 😉

If you want something really nice for the road, get a small SATA RAID and a SATA card for the express card slot to connect it. Much faster than FW800.
Yes, the Dells are quite OK and they offer analog inputs to directly connect your camera.
