Post the clips for us to better see the issue. And please explain what do you mean by mash up… Maybe not all here understand the same thing you do when you use that term.

I do not see anything out of the ordinary here- simple Levels, Position and Rotation animation (may be a bit Scale as well), with a Motion Tile applied to make sure the edges do not show up (mirrored) and Motion Blur enabled. The rest is timing. The sprocket holes can be created in AI and then animated on top.

Use more than one mask – this way if objects or parts of objects overlap and need more points that later become useless then you do not need to struggle to keep a clean shape.

  • Do you have the camera you want to render selected as active under the comp window as you render?

  • I think Trapcode Form may be better suited for this- you can use a sequence (obj) of 3d wings with that to create what you are after.
Another idea is tu use a flat layer to create the fiery look with Particular and then distort that layer in 3d using FreeForm Pro.

  • It looks pretty good as is, but it needs to be softer and have some light modeling the volume. A secondary spray of smaller particles would help and a variation in emission/gravity would help.

FreeForm Pro can be used to achieve this effect. You can displace your animated paint layer in 3D space. This will enable you to use Lights and have control over the texture of the paint, also you can use a rflection map for more realism. To create a displacement map you can comp a duplicate of your animated paint layer over black, use a Hue/Saturation effect to crush all color to white and a Matte Choker to feather the edge – you may need to add a soft blur as well. Precomp and use as a displacement map in the FF Pro plugin- this will give you the bevel you need for the paint layer.

  • Simple solution- re-shoot. It seems to me that it’s too much work involved for a simple shot like this.
Next level of involvement- keep the scum/dirt on the windshield and just replace the sign – it adds realism to the shot.
The third option is to try and track the dirt on the windshield, create a mask and comp the footage on top of itself offsetting by a few frames and tweak that, but it will still be a lengthy process.
