you could add a trackmatte alpha to the the layers rising up, give it a little noise where it hits the ground plane to simulate the effect.

I’m not sure if your alpha has any greys in it, but displacemnt maps needs shades of grey to look good.
    black will displace 0%
    white will displace 100%
the greys inbetween smooth out the displacement.

it sounds like the keyframe interpolation. rightclick on each keframe and try changing them to linear. just changing the preferences will not change existing keys.

when you duplicated your layer and applied a white fill, did you then just scale the footage? if you use a simple choker to expand the matte before you apply your fill, then it should be what your looking for.

The stroke effect needs a path to work, check out the mentioned tutorial if you wanna go that route.

AE does not read z depth from IFF files. It will read zdepth from EXR or RLA files though. But yes, a lot of people reccomend rendering out an evironment fog pass and blurring it yourself.

another solution would be to just track the piece of paper and use a cornerpin.

when I’m aligning stuff up with a camera I find that adding another camera (think of it as a perspective view) into the scene helps a lot.

The only thing that sucks about the cox upload is it’s web based. I’ve dealt with other companies that offer uploads and they’ve all been ftp based which is so much nicer/easier to manage.
