what? you mean I have to work hard to make this stuff? Sorry, there’s no magic button for everything. Either invest some time in roto work, or hire someone who can do it faster than you.

I don’t know if it’ll help at all, but your welcome to use my hand 😉

I run Vista64 on my MacPro, and it works fabulous. Much easier than building a machine and not that much more $$$ either. Obviously don’t buy crap like RAM or HD’s or vid cards from apple though. Plus an added bonus is having a MacOS machine on site.

A fast RAID isn’t going to help you with AE or C4D as much as a boatload of RAM.
I’d say the most important thing is multiple cores (at least 8) and 2 GB of RAM per core. At least for AE, not sure about C4D.

You could always look into a render farm also. 6 old school servers is still faster than my machine.

just split it into 4 comps, one comp for every 3 digits + the last 2. Then composite it all together. It’s just gonna be a big blurry mess anyway so the numbers shouldn’t have to match up.

try using keylight on your non-matte layer and set it to pure green. It shouldn’t key it out, but it’ll use the built in color supressor on it.

you can make it look better than your example in AE, but if you don’t own AE you can do it in FCP. Just make everything in Photoshop, Illustrator, or other graphics app. Then it’s just applying a slow wipe effect on the line layer while the city names fade in.

I just set up the render queue with a “multiple Machine render” and use a command line render script on each machine. check out “aerender” i the manual.

everything will still work without a dedicated server, it just won’t be as fast.

I’ve always found the “watch folder” method a PITA. The problem being collecting huge projects. I like running the renders in batch mode better.
