Not sure if this an AE or FPC or ‘other’ software question.
I own and know FCP and want to know if anyone has accomplished this exact effect in either FCP or AE or ‘other’ software. Or if a plug is in needed.
I think it’s referred to as map trace effect or “Indiana Jones” effect.
    Here a capture I made during a camera test….
The effect is portrayed in the opening sequence
    Thanks

    Yo!

    This tutorial:

looks pretty decent. It requires Photoshop too.

A way to do it just in AE would be to use the vector paint tool I guess. It’s an okay tool, but a bit annoying sometimes.

Start with a large map and a large comp. Use the pen tool to draw the path. Use the stroke effect and animate the start point of the stroke to draw the line. Use the shape tool to create the dots that mark the cities. Nest the large comp in a smaller comp to create camera movement across the map. If none of this makes any sense to you, you should consider hiring someone to do it for you.

Thanks for that Videomaker tutorial. I don’t own AE, but I may have to break down and get it, unless I can figure out a way to accomplish the reveal in Motion or a FCP plugin. Time to call my friend Bill at StageTools.

I also wonder if Flash might not be a decent tool? It is after all, a 2-D project.

you can make it look better than your example in AE, but if you don’t own AE you can do it in FCP. Just make everything in Photoshop, Illustrator, or other graphics app. Then it’s just applying a slow wipe effect on the line layer while the city names fade in.
