  • Applying DOF in AE with Maya .iff files. Help Pls.

Posted by Justin Mettam on March 23, 2009 at 1:21 am

I have been trying to figure this out all day and am at my wits end.

I render out .iff files with z channels. Import them into AE. The I have tried numerous ways to get AE to read the Z channel, to no avail.
I have also rendered out rla files but still AE won’t see the Zchannel.

Can someone please talk me through the correct process to I can apply DOF to my images.

I will be eternally grateful if you can help me with this.

FYI usinjg Maya7 and “AE Pro CS3”

AE does not read z channel info. You need to render out a depth pass in Maya and use it in conjunction with the CC lens blur effect in AE.

AE does not read z depth from IFF files. It will read zdepth from EXR or RLA files though. But yes, a lot of people reccomend rendering out an evironment fog pass and blurring it yourself.
