Apple is showing all three of those cameras working at 24p with FCP. It’s not in 5.1, but it’s probably not far away.

FCP does not output timecode. The deck generates its own timecode. Start by blacking the beginning of the tape by presetting the timecode to regen begin at 58:00:00. Use the first two minutes for bars abd tone and slate and countdown and whatever and then edit your program onto the tape beginning at 1:00:00:00.

What view do you want to work with? Do you need the Canvas to be bigger? Stretch it out by dragging between the windows to dynamically resize them.

Export a QuickTime Movie current settings non-self-contained. Bring that into Compressor and chose the preset that works for you. Avoid any that say two-pass.

Sounds like you were either doing and overwrite with In and Out points in the sequence that were longer than the duration allowed for the title, or you tried to do a superimpose edit and the clip underneath the title exceeded the available duration of the title.

The replace edit works by aligning the viewer playhead with the timeline playhead and replacing the frame in the timeline with the frame under the playhead in the viewer. So if in the timeline you’re at the start of the shot and in the viewer you’re near the end of the shot you’ll be the insufficient content error even though the shot in the viewer itself is more than long enough to cover the shot in the timeline. This may be what’s happening to you. It doesn’t have anything to do with performance or the quality of the media.

It sounds like you need to calibrate the device control on the deck. There are offsets in the device control preferences that let you change that. You should be able to get it consistent a lot closer than 15 frames.

Mark the area that you want to put in the slomo. If it’s one shot it’s easy hit the X key. Put the playhead at the beginning of the shot. Press Cmd-Opt-F to match frame to a new piece of media with the same frame. Mark the In point. Do your speed change and overwrite into the sequence. It takes a lot longer to explain it and write it than it does to do it.
