Yep. The replace edit function may be your best bet. It works well without in/out points and just using the position indicator on the timeline and your clip.

This goes with almost any video application! I’ve got 2 20″ wide screen displays. I love having the real estate. Also, a professional external NTSC monitor is a wonderful contribution.

Double-click on your nested sequence. Double-click on the layer you want and it will load into your viewer. Or, on the sequence, you can CTL-click and select to load in viewer.

DVD’s are mpeg-2. You should be able to just drag your captured files – like you said you normally do – to DVDSP or iDVD, whichever you’re using. They will compress to mpeg-2 for you, so you don’t have to do anything else if you don’t want/need to.

Even better than rendering LiveType with alpha, just save the LT project and import into FCP. Only 1 render that way.

5 minutes can make for a pretty large file size if you want it to look clean. You will probably need some other program for the avi. I haven’t found a setting in Compressor that makes a clean, small size avi file. I’ve just gone to sending out mpeg-1 or mpeg-4 files instead. Maybe someone else has had better luck???

You may want to trash the FCP Preferences first, before going through a reinstall. This can cure many of FCP’s crashing problems.

This also happens if you try to import mpeg1 video directly. You need to demux it first. Since you didn’t post any specifics, we’re guessing here.
