    Hey

a basic question for a basic forum:

what am i missing that i cannot cut a clip into a sequence when i have a dissolve or other transtions at the head or tail of the shot i want to overwrite?

i am used to a system where if i do an overwrite where transitions live, the transision just goes away, and you have to put it back.

With FCP 5.0.4, i keep getting an erro message saying something like “By Doing This a transition will be split so i cant do it”

is there not a way to overwrite a clip with a transition on the head or tail or both, and just have it either stay or go away?

    thanx

What if you select teh clip and use replace.

    Or

Maybe you can use “overwrite with transition” if you drag the clip over the canvas window.

Yep. The replace edit function may be your best bet. It works well without in/out points and just using the position indicator on the timeline and your clip.
