Sounds like it’s acting the way I’d expect. You may want to try Pancake Editing instead. Drag from timeline to timeline.

It does sound like it may be an old 32 bit version that isn’t supported any longer. But I can’t say for sure.
Try transcoding to another file with something like Handbrake and see what happens.

I had a feeling it was h264 footage. As John said, and as you found out, ProRes will be a larger file. Your project was edited with the h264 original footage, right? If so, I would just keep that footage. I would not try to transcode it.

What is your original footage that you edited with? Image size and codec?
ProRes LT may be less compressed than your original footage. -
Not sure if related, but have you tried any of the broken Dynamic Link fixes between PPro and AE?

If you are changing the speed on your nested timeline, you are not affecting the original media within the nest, only the nested sequence. Similarly, if you do the same in an AE comp and change the speed of a Precomp, you change the precomp speed, but do not affect the original media lengths within the precomp.
You will need to go in and edit each clip to length.

We just went through a mess after updating to Catalina on a MacPro (Late 2013) and our US4K. Finally, an Apple update dropped (either yesterday or today) and updated Catalina. Now we can at least use our US4K. Not sure it will help you with your issue, but it’s possible. Our problem was just getting the Desktop Video app to see the hardware.

I’ve been using 2020 on Catalina on a MacPro (late 2013) with no problem. I send clips from the timeline to Audition all the time. I haven’t done a sequence to a multitrack yet.

You should already have Adobe Media Encoder. That works great.

If it is struggling that bad with the 1440, you can also do Proxies (Prores/DNxHD/Cineform) and relink to originals for final export. But, really, it shouldn’t be struggling that bad. What’s your hardware?
