The key factor is that the multicam window represents a different sequence. PPro can’t play two sequences simultaneously (no NLE that I know of does).
The multicam monitor shows you the multicam sequence when you play it…the sequence where you nested it (where you see the ‘cut up’ sequence clip that is your multicam switch) is a different sequence. Most likely the audio mixer changes you’re attempting to make are on the nested (not the switched) sequence…the audio mixer has a separate tab for each open sequence…and when you click on the mixer, it throws focus off the switched sequence, stopping playback.
In a nutshell, they can’t all run together as the software isn’t designed to run multiple sequences decoding common media files while supplying multiple full time overlays…not that many computers could hack multiple simultaneous decodes with 3-4 streams of compressed HD at the current time anyway of course….

First off, DSLRs shoot H264, but they don’t shoot AVCHD…it’s a different specification.
CineForm is an approach that works on either Mac or Windows. ProRes is good but it requires FCP…and a Mac to do the transcode.
H264 depends largely on processor power. CS5 works smoothly with it, but you need a system that is up to the task.

It’s a preference…audio “source channel mapping”

No, you’re fine.
sequence settings in PPro are really a convenience as the timeline is codec agnostic. Any codec on the machine will decode without much fuss as long as the sequence is set for the right framesize/pixel aspect and framerate…however, even those traits can be mixed up to the capabilities of your machine.
For instance, any sequence setting that is 1920×1080 23.976p will take XDcamEX or XDcamHD 422, or AVCHD, or DSLR, or ProRes, or AVC-Intra (or anything else the computer can decode) of that size and framerate without any issues at all…
The mention of cameras and codecs in the “presets” area is basically to help reduce confusion for those people who want an obvious setting that they know is “correct” but are unsure of the specifics of the codec, etc.
For instance, in cases of XDcamHD, DVCProHD and HDV 1080, the framesize is not full raster and it can be hard to keep track of all the different approaches…

DVCProHD is a good format, but Sony’s HDcamEX is full raster (1920×1080) whereas DVCProHD is 1280×1080.
I might try simple trimmed project to archive from the project manager.

January 22, 2011 at 11:30 pm in reply to: Speed duration change causes blurry flicker after export80% is not easy math for 25 fps. It means you’ll try to run 20 frames each second…somehow presented as 25 fps. each frame is 1.2 frames duration…you’ll have lots of interpolation and imperfect cadence unless you can make time-remapping work better than a straight speed command, or move it into After Effects

40 fps is a little strange… It sounds like whoever captured it probably maxed out the capture capacity. 15 fps is fine, 24 is pretty good, even for most video applications.
You would have to create custom desktop settings and enter a custom frame rate…but I’d suggest outputting the final file to 24 or 15 fps unless there is some technical reason why 40 fps is required…

The mkv file looks particularly funky, but even the framesize looks odd…
“AVC” should be supported in any known camera format…

January 21, 2011 at 1:02 am in reply to: CS4 Media Encoder Stops with Magic Bullet clips?? (WIN)Have you tried this with only one project and one clip or have you triked a new project and different media?
Can you render those areas as previews?
I know there are some Magic Bullet effects that I HAVE to render the previews…then check the “use previews” option in Media Encoder or it will tank.
Have you tried starting the application and dumping the preferences? Perhaps the disk clean up utility got a little aggressive on one machine?

Yes…what Brian said.
A state currently exists where you CAN load some CS5 files (sequences, etc) into CS4 as long as the settings and effects and everything you used actually exist in CS4.
This is simply a happenstance that apparently Adobe did not change the structure of the basic file components this time out…but there is no guarantee that will happen the next time…or even after one of the frequent updates Adobe has been releasing…
Don’t rely on it.
