Hi, I am using PPro CS5 to do edit a very small project. The footage is of someone giving a tutorial on a software package which they have recorded using screen capture software.

I am not sure which software they used by the final file is:

    – 40fps
    – 1680 x 843px
    – Data rate (if useful) is 52788kbps

Given that I am quite new to editing and that this isn’t one of the predefined sequence options what would be the best way of setting the project up in CS5?

The actual editing required is rather simple, but I want to make sure I get it right from the beginning.

    Thank you in advance.

40 fps is a little strange… It sounds like whoever captured it probably maxed out the capture capacity. 15 fps is fine, 24 is pretty good, even for most video applications.

You would have to create custom desktop settings and enter a custom frame rate…but I’d suggest outputting the final file to 24 or 15 fps unless there is some technical reason why 40 fps is required…

Cheers for the reply Tim. Since your post I actually read a bit more or Codecs and discovered what the issue was,

Basically the client had captured the footage in screen grab program called ‘Rendersoft CamStudio’ which unfortunately uses its own codec ‘RenderSoft CamStudio lossless Codec (LZO & GZIP compression)’ which is wrapped in a .avi format.

I used a program called G-Spot to find this all out (very good software and free!) and managed to get the CODEC however it still does not play nice with Premiere Pro.

I am simply going to have the client re-record the footage tomorrow in a more friendly format!
