  • Can’t get mp4 or mkv source to import audio in CS5

I have a clip I need to edit in premiere pro, I have been given it in both mp4 and mkv formats, with the following mediainfo results:

    .mp4 file:

    .mkv file:

When I try importing the .mp4 file, it adds 6 audio channels. However, only one or two of them (it tends to vary every time I try importing) actually has anything in it, so everything sounds off (as it’s missing some channels apparently). Also, those disappear a few minutes into the clip.

Obviously, I can’t import the .mkv without converting, so that’s what I’ve spent the last two days doing.

I tried avidemux with the video being mjpeg (lavc) which worked fine. However, I cannot get the audio working. If I choose PCM then I get an “unsupported audio format” error when importing. If I use AAC or AC3 then I just end up with an empty audio track after importing (even though the converted files play back fine with audio in media player classic).

    Anyone have any ideas?

Where did this video come from?

The mkv file looks particularly funky, but even the framesize looks odd…

“AVC” should be supported in any known camera format…
