Personal Information

Hobbies

Big water (Great Lakes) kayaking until the torn rotator cuff…once surgery is once again an option…kayaking again.

Areas of Expertise

Video production in general. I have awards stored in various boxes for producing, directing, editing, post effects, motion graphics/animation…etc. After spending 25 years on my own, I finally took a staff producer job inside an organization. During my independence, I had side gigs such as field engineer (freelance) at ABC Sports and I spent a while helping Robert sharp get things organized at Digieffects as the Chief Product Officer. I had some combination of advisor/demo monkey/technical writer roles for Adobe, AJA, Canopus, CineForm, Convergent Design, Silicon Imaging, and more…and spent some time writing/contributing to, or editing/technical editing books for Focal Press and others. These days I'm spread out within my current job between video production for automotive training, event staging and show running and now we're adding several multi-camera NDI-based webinar origination systems. I still do some freelance work here and there, when the time is available.

Favorite Books

I tend to read a lot of Ludlum or similar when I have free time to just escape…which is not too often.

Favorite Bands / Musician

Foo Fighters.

Favorite Movies

Forrest Gump, Usual Suspects

Favorite TV Shows

Always thought that Firefly wasn't given enough of a shot. Still find myself entertained by old MST3K episodes when I get a chance to watch them.

Comments and Things Worth Noting

In video production since 1986.

Adobe…everything pretty much.

Day job is 100% Mac…My own gear is 100% Windows…

Travel a lot and use TeamViewer on both platforms quite a bit to control workstations back at the office when necessary.

Cameras

Rented all kinds of camera gear over the years… Sony HD/4K cameras at the day job.

Somewhat humorously, after using Sony CineAlta gear myself for years, for form factor and cost reasons, I went rogue and picked up these little Canon XC15s (HD/UHD) that I can travel with and do 2 camera corporate interviews.  I took kind of a flyer on the lowest cost/largest sensor UHD capable option I could find and  their performance (300 Mbps UHD) for the cost is actually quite astounding for a camera that takes as much space as a small DSLR…and I now have one battery inventory for my still and video gear.
