I’m using CS5 in Multi Camera Mode. While I can deal with the slowness and glitches, I’m trying to optimize my workflow.

I’m using a technique were I have both a multicam nested track and a duplicate of all the tracks that made the nested multicam track in the same timeline/sequence. This way I can see where my various clips that are not always contiguous are rather than a solid block of the nested multi-camera track.

I can play from the multi-camera window, or the timeline / program window. When I stop the playback either one will ‘chase’ to the point where I stopped, but neither will continuously play or be ‘ganged’ while the other is playing. Is there any way to make them both play together?

Another thing is the Audio Mixer, it seems when I adjust sliders on the audio mixer, it will stop the multicamera playback. This doesn’t happen when I play from the timeline, it doesn’t stop. Is there any way to keep the multicam from stopping?

    Thanks much for any advice.

The key factor is that the multicam window represents a different sequence. PPro can’t play two sequences simultaneously (no NLE that I know of does).

The multicam monitor shows you the multicam sequence when you play it…the sequence where you nested it (where you see the ‘cut up’ sequence clip that is your multicam switch) is a different sequence. Most likely the audio mixer changes you’re attempting to make are on the nested (not the switched) sequence…the audio mixer has a separate tab for each open sequence…and when you click on the mixer, it throws focus off the switched sequence, stopping playback.

In a nutshell, they can’t all run together as the software isn’t designed to run multiple sequences decoding common media files while supplying multiple full time overlays…not that many computers could hack multiple simultaneous decodes with 3-4 streams of compressed HD at the current time anyway of course….

Tim…since you’ve got a handle on this, how do I accomplish a remixing task for my multicam video. I have a 3 camera sequence and a 4 channel remote sound mix. I’ve timed them together no problem. I created a multicam sequence and did a ton of editing…cuts, splices, transitions…the works. Now I want to go back and readjust some of the track volumes to make the sound more punchy and up front. I need to adjust the sound, but being in multicam, I am only getting a single track stereo to play with. I want to adjust one of the 4 nested tracks. I can’t go back to do the edits in the original sequence because of all the previous edits in the multicam track. How do I get a mix to happen in live real time for my multicam edit…

You would have to do any audio work on individual camera shots in the multicamera sequence itself…where you have access to all the audio in the source tracks.
