I have been doing it two years or more and have had great results.
Make sure you build pan/scan dvds so that those with wide/lcd/plasma can take full advantage of your footage.

March 22, 2007 at 10:02 pm in reply to: disadvantages to editing with the “unlimited RT”???One thing that I have found…to keep from so many “dropped frames”…go under the Sequence menu to Render Only then click Mixdown this does something to your audio…not sure what, but it has helped in the past if I was getting a lot of the dropped frames.

One big thing to me…is the ability to check my color and sometimes framing with a field monitor…given the choice I would go with a camera that at least had an on-board lcd for monitoring.
Another thing I do not like about the Canons is the lack of an onboard monitor other than the eyepiece. I have been spoiled by my HD100…I rarely ever shoot with an eyepiece monitor anymore unless it is run and gun style. Most of the onboard lcds…I have found to be pretty much bang on for color and for framing.
Just a suggestion.

As an HDV camera owner…I am with Walter on this one.
HDV has been kind of a stop gap for me the last couple of years…but I am now looking at the XDCams and the HDX900s.
My question is what are you currently using? If you are already doing a lot multicam shoots…what are they done with?
If you are not expecting to go HD for anytime soon…and you need timecode sync…I would look to the higher-end, older models of the Sony or JVC fullsized cameras…the JVC GYDV5000 is an awesome camera (I actually had the lowerend GYDV500 before my HDV purchase)and it offers all the bells and whistles of high end beta cameras and not the price. There are a lot of used ones out there…not sure on what is comparable in the newer models.
My concern for you is that you are going to have to buy a lot stuff with an HDV offering simply because of the HD. IF you are not going to use it…then stay in what you know first off and save some budget for a doorway dolly or other good support gear to add production value to your multicam shoots.
Just a side note…I personally despise the ergonomics of the Canon offerings…try shooting a gruelling day with one of those…its a pain.

I think I found a work around or how to make it happen…
I saved it as a .pct with an alpha and it appears to be working the way I want it to.
If anyone has more input…I am all ears…or eyes as the case may be.
Thanks all…Love the Cow!!!

I think the bigger picture is that it is just corporate america being the greedy, smarmy money grubbers that we all know that they all are.
Were it not for these pillars of business we could have had a fully electric car 40+ years ago. Clean air and water for our children to breath and drink. Fewer landfills and soil contamination. And the list goes on.
As to Apple…are we really surprised? Where there is any major amount of money being moved…there are unethical people to move it to their own pockets. Is that selling us out…no…it is just big business being big business. Now if it were to leave us high and dry like an Enron callapse…maybe, but if that were to happen there would be another unethical corporation out there to suck its assets up to keep us alive, because we mean big money to whomever controls what we use.
But be careful here…I think a lot of us…including myself…make a significant amount of our incomes from these corporations, as well. Are we “war profiteers” in the on-going battle against corporate madness? The argument could be made.
Selling us out…No…contributing to the decline of the image of corporate america and its controllers/comptrollers…Yes!!!

Thanks Zak…I had no idea. Your work-around is working great. Information that would have been good on the upgrade from the Apple folks.
Any reason why HDV does not support alpha…techy I’m sure, but I am just curious. Also, does that hold true for any software right now…looking to upgrade my old After Effects…will not be able to use any alpha from any software in HDV right now?
Thanks so much…Love the Cow!!!
