Question for the Digital Juice fans out there…
Posted by Tim Baker on March 22, 2007 at 10:05 pmHey all,
I have three clips that I output using the Juicer 3 software from Digital Juice for my HDV 1280×720 sequence…all settings are right to match video clips to sequence, but the darn things have to be rendered.
I have checked the motion tabs of all clips…nothing wierd there…and this is driving me crazy. I even used the Media Manager to re-compress to the HDV720p that it needs to be to no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim Baker

They always have to be rendered, even in SD using the 8bit Uncompressed setting. What I do is bring the clips into FCP, export them from the timeline as a self contained movie and then bring that back in.
The Juicer is kind of useless really except for auditioning the clips.

March 23, 2007 at 1:01 amWhen I use the DJ products I always make sure and check the properties of the Quicktime Codec being used. It Defaults to Animation so, in the case of my timelines being DVCPro, I make sure and switch the Quicktime properties to DV/DVCPro NTSC. Then I do not have to render ever. I always make sure and use 29.97. Now I am not currently working in SD and do not work in HDV but there are presets in the Compressor Type settings for Quicktime in juicer 3 for HDV. So make sure those are set and not Animation and try and see if you still need to render.
And Walter, have you tried the Uncompressed setting in this area as well?
Have a great day.

March 23, 2007 at 11:16 amSeems like whenever I output from Juicer in 8bit, I still have to render in FCP AND I lose the alpha channel. Like Walter, I just use the Juicer as a very good auditioning tool.

March 23, 2007 at 3:09 pmIn Juicer 3 there is a button that looks like a sideways open end wrench next to the Format for Quicktime Movie. In there you can make the necessary compressor changes. It took me a LOOOOONG time to figure all this out. Have fun and good luck.

Does this actually work? I’ve changed all the Quicktime settings in Juicer 2 and they never work correctly. Choose 720×486 Uncompressed 4:2:2 Quicktime and when imported into an SD project, they still need to be rendered.

March 23, 2007 at 4:47 pmI use the Juicer2 to export to 10-bit Uncompressed and don’t have to render.

March 23, 2007 at 6:48 pmBut 29.97? 30fps will have to render. (or insert appropriate HD numbers)
