August 28, 2007 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Desperate need of help…HDV finally got me…

I may have found a workaround that will work, but is not the best choice.

I am, as we speak, doing a digi via the component outs to my Kona I/O to anamorphic DV with “uncontrollable” device. Not my first choice, but it is rolling it in.

It will eventually be output to a SD DVD anyway…so I guess this will work.

I would still take any suggestions of getting this roll in “free roll” in a continous clip so I could do a good HDV multiclip edit.

    Thanks all…

Yes…I tried without it to…I figured maybe it was making sync worse if it was shifting things to fix timecode, but nothing has worked.

Hey I tell you what…I’ll book a half day for you if I can charge portal to portal and then walk off your shoot to run and do the second gig that I book the same day.

Not likely to happen…did not think so…that is why I have never booked half days. It does not make good business since because anyway you look at it…your going to kill my day…so you should pay for it.

It kills me the number of ProductionHub and other emails I get all the time wanting these kinds of rates…uh oh…I’ve fallen into the way to present rant trap on the Cow.

    Hey Coale,

I have used a company DeWitt/Stern 1(818)623-1170 out of Studio City for many years now and have had great luck.

I carry constant Inland Marine underwritten by Fireman’s Fund.

I can do daily/pro-rated riders for just the days that I am on location…usually around $500 per day. And have it on a quick turnaround.

For me…like you…that is a great option, since I dont need it on a continual basis either.

I have also had great luck with a website:

    http://www.bestbuyplasma.com

I have bought a few large LCDs from them and had a good experience with them.

Thanks for that tip, but I was investigating the feasibility of going “tapeless”…truely tapeless…and that would have negated and prevented the challenge that I am now experiencing.

Since no tape was rolled…I am finding that no timecode was tranfered to Hard Drive…so I think that is the biggest issue at the time.

I have fired off several emails to the nNovia folks…I will post any results as soon as I get them.

Can you make some suggestions for a better monitor to use? There are so many out there…I saw this one on sale and it had great reviews on-line.

I can still return it…any suggestions and price ranges of what you would suggest? Not a very big budget for this…or did I get a decent monitor for my budget of around $1000 to $1500?

Also, is there a board set for my Sony PVM 14L2 that would make it multi-format for the same price range…I could be happy with that, as well?

I am using good quality cables…most of my connectors are Canare.

    Thanks,

    Ahhhh…my fears are confirmed.

Thanks guys…I figured as much, but one can always hope.

Like I said…it does look OK…especially for me and an occasional client monitor.

I was just sick of seeing my really nice footage down-converted to my little Sony SD monitor…which looked good…just not real impressive.

    Love the Cow.

It looks OK…with the component RCA’s from the Kbox BNC components, but I really think it can look better.

I did one test where I hooked my JVC HD100 straight into the Plasma via the RCA component outs from the camera and it looked phenomenal…somewhat better than the Kbox component outs.

    Ahhhh….whats a boy to do?

Guess I should have been more clear…I’m no fool.

What I use it…the lcd…for is to make sure I dont have blue video…white balance actually took…framing…etc.

    But thanks for the concern.
