Ok…got my CU-VH1 back from my buddy tonight and am trying it now.
In “edit to tape”…it appears that all I am getting is good clean audio and the first frame of video in my timeline…which in this case is the first frame of my bars. So it is sending good audio and freezing the video with the first frame.
In “Print to Video”…I dont appear to be getting anything.
And again…if I “play from timeline”…I only get the good audio…and the still of where the CTI is sitting at the time or when I hit space bar to stop it updates to the frame that it stops on.
I am at a loss…this should be a no-brainer and the easiest thing to do.
I need help desperately.
Thanks all,

One of the first questions is how are you planning on handling your workflow.
If you are using the HD100 as a playback device and dubbing out via firewire…you could probably use any deck you like.
One issue to really be aware of is that the JVC HDV stream is proprietary and you cannot playback an HDV JVC tape in any other device excepting JVC HDV decks or cameras.
Why not look at one of the hard drive systems…it would be cheaper and probably safer in shipping. Then at end of shoot…you have your tape and the hard drive and keep the one you want to keep and ship the other.
Just some thoughts.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the info, but I looked at SBA and it really scared the dooty out of me for one main reason. Since it sounds like you have some experience, maybe you can tell me if my impression is correct.
From what I can tell the SBA money operates just like a traditional loan…you sign on the dotted line and in 30 days you have a payment due.
Lets say I wanted to start a bakery from the ground up…obviously my construction loan would be mostly deferred, but once that is done I start making payments on that…then the other SBA money that I would obviously need I would already be making payments on before a lot of my ovens are installed and personnel are hired. I would be making payments before sell one loaf of bread. I don’t understand how they expect you to be able to do that.
The only way I figured a person could do that would be to actually borrow say 40% more than you think you may need just so you can use it to make payments…that sounds a little cannibalistic to me…you are already eating yourself before you are in business.
I am so confused…obviously.
Thanks for any guidance you may have.

I think the TC sensitivity comes from the nature of GOP structure recording for the mpeg recorded signal. Issues with landing on that one certain frame and how it is recorded.

Hey David,
Sorry to hear it is the software, but it almost had to be from what I was seeing.
Very interesting though, but with Sony…dude they are so arrogant sometimes…like other manufacturers aren’t…lol.
Glad you figured it out.

If I’m not mistaken here…once you output to the .mpeg compression for DVD…it should play just fine on any DVD player.
Even most EU players are cross compatible with pal/ntsc as long they were made in recent years.
Not sure about the other questions.

Hey David,
Strike one for me…lol!
I guess what is confusing me here…and what I think may be your problem…is how are you ending up with an .m2t file at capture?
If you are using a firewire cable from camera to computer…you should be getting .mov or .wmv or whatever. I am not familiar with an editor that captures to .m2t…does Vegas do that?
My usual workflow…with my JVC HD100 is(from tape)…shoot then hook up camera via firewire to computer(Mac) and put FCP into capture mode and set my presets to match how I shot and capture to .mov to hard drive and have never had an issue with TC or much else for that matter.
If I shoot to my nNovia QC Deck HD Recorder…I connect the drive to my Mac…import the clips as their native .m2t put them thru MpegStreamClip to strip off the .m2t wrapper and put a .mov wrapper on so that FCP can then work with them. Then it is a simple import into FCP.
I just stepped thru all my cams menu settings and cannot see anything that should be causing this for you.
Are there any settings in Vegas at capture that would allow you to use existing TC or to re-TC at digi? Just guessing here now since I have no experience with Vegas…other than loosing a lot at the tables…LOL!
I’ll keep thinking and researching.

If you are using .m2t files you are not using tape. You must be capturing from a hard drive device.
If that is the case…check the internal settings of the record device and see if the timecode setting is to internal/external or some similar setting.
It sounds like your record device is recording its own timecode and not being fed the info from camera.
Also watch the settings in your conversion software…ie-MpegStreamclip…or whatever you are using, because you could also be messing up the timecode with a setting in these softwares.

Hey Kelvin,
Nothing yet…I think I just got a bad batch of tapes is all I can figure.
