Does anyone know how to force a digitize with the HDV capture codec but without a controllable device?

Here is my problem…I have an Innovia QC-Deck and I just shot some test footage in 24p without a tape…just wanted to get some footage at 24p and did not want to burn a tape in the process. And wanted to test the viability of going totally tapeless.

In doing this..without a tape…there was no timecode for the QC Deck to read…so the digitize in normal process gets hung up on “searching for media” when it is playing beautifully in the digitize window the whole time.

Apple Intermediate is not an option since it does not read the 24p properly…it digitizes it fine, but at 59.94 so the footage is double normal speed of 24p.

So I would like to be able to roll it in just free rolling, but the dang HDV preset will not allow it because it wants to always get device control.

    Any suggestions would be great.

I had a similar problem capturing HDV from a Canon XL-H1 but I was capturing via component uncompressed with the capture device set for uncontrollable device.

I’m not sure you can capture via firewire with the device set for uncontrollable, but I thought I did that once on my HD-100-U.

Even when recording directly to a hard drive it is also a vary good idea to simultaneously record to tape as a back up.

Thanks for that tip, but I was investigating the feasibility of going “tapeless”…truely tapeless…and that would have negated and prevented the challenge that I am now experiencing.

Since no tape was rolled…I am finding that no timecode was tranfered to Hard Drive…so I think that is the biggest issue at the time.

I have fired off several emails to the nNovia folks…I will post any results as soon as I get them.
