Good question! I too have been wondering this, although it sounds a little like a “magic plugin” which people are not fans of…

  • I recently had to do this and was told my two options (in my situation) were to either edit all in a 720p sequence, or in a 1080p sequence and allow the frame to be stretched- it depends on what your outputting for and what equipment you have at your disposal, which in my case was virtually nothing. I hope someone can answer with more authority on the subject for you 🙂

You can also buy FW800 repeater hubs, but they’re a tad pricey…

November 29, 2010 at 11:38 pm in reply to: Upres and Downres assistance

Well prores isn’t “downresing” at all- in fact it works with most full HD codecs in full frame and bitrate and color space. For the 550d which shoots in H264, the best bet would be to put everything through a program such as mpeg streamclip to batch transcode to prores 422 at full quality, then work in a prores sequence in FCP. I think that’s best, let me know as well everyone, I too will be getting a 550d in a week 🙂

You actually asked a few different questions there, so I’ll answer the last one. You can do any number of courses, some run by Apple about the technical aspects, and view a few online tutorials here and YouTube etc, but the real answer is that editing takes a long time to master. I means years. Ive been editing over 6 years now and many creative cow FCP answering people know about 2billion times more than me- not just the technical stuff which you can read in a manual, but the timing, and “art” of using creative initiative. It takes passion and time! As for your other questions, you may need to be a little more specific, although you could try searching for keyframing pictures or something….

Also aren’t some plugins 64bit? So will be useful for those?
