[Simon Balch] “make sure the boom mic audio is panned on centre”

And, you’ll likely need to increase the level of that audio by 3 to 6 dB.

[Keith Betts] ” when the clip was imported into my editing system I found the camcorder had mixed the 2 channels.”

    I’d double-check that.

Unless the camera has a mix function, you likely just needed to pan the two channels apart in the edit software.

Click on the video clip for which you what to match-up the audio, and hit the “f” key.
(Make sure the Auto Select button is on for that video track.)

That’ll bring up all of the original source tracks in the Viewer, synced to the point of the cursor.

You can then edit in any of those tracks to your Timeline.

  • [Ivars Trautmanis] “Would you suggest using this cabel? – https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/562038-REG/Remote_Audio_CAX3F1_8MS_CA...

That cable is a BALANCED MONO cable (XLR-1/8″ TRS) designed for a specific kind of balanced mono input.

The 1/8″ TRS inputs on many units are STEREO, UN-Balanced jacks, and require adapter cables that are wired differently than the one at the link.

You need to know which recording unit you are purchasing before you know which cables to buy to match it.

Is it related to a “left channel” – “right channel” split audio issue?
(One channel not being heard on the computers?)

FCP can work in a very similar fashion-

    ALPHA:
You can use any alpha channel image (a Title, a Photoshop image with alpha, etc) to cut a HOLE (in it’s exact shape) and “Fill” it with other moving (or static) video… all “keyed over” another video track.

V3: Fill clip (what you want to be “inside” alpha)
    – Select (highlight) THIS clip on V3, then:
Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Alpha

V2: Any “Alpha-channeled” clip (or title generator)

V1: Background clip (will be seen outside the “hole(s)”)

If you end up with the “reverse” of what you want, swap the clips on V1 and V3.
Remember to change the settings (Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Alpha) on the clip that is now on V3.

You can move/expand/reposition the V2 clip or even use it as a custom “wipe”.

    LUMA:
You can use any high-contrast image (a Title, a Photoshop image, a moving video clip, etc) to cut a HOLE (in it’s exact shape) and “Fill” it with other moving (or static) video… all “keyed over” another video track.

V3: Fill clip. What you want to be “inside” the “hole(s)”. (Where the WHITE area of the V2 clip is.)
    – Select (highlight) THIS clip on V3, then:
Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Luma

    V2: “Hole-cutter” clip or title
V2 can be any HIGH-CONTRAST (B&W preferred) video or CG.

V1: Background clip. Will be seen outside the “hole(s)”. (Where the BLACK area of the V2 clip is.)
V1 can be a VIDEO CLIP or a MATTE COLOR.

If you end up with the “reverse” of what you want, swap the clips on V1 and V3.
Remember to change the settings (Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Luma) on the clip that is now on V3.

You can move/expand/reposition the V2 clip or even use it as a custom “wipe”.

Instead of using the High Pass Filter, try instead, the “Hum Remover” Audio Filter.
Turn on 1st and 2nd harmonic.

Why not talk to a broadcast station?

They can offer some great rates.
