What John said but also make sure that you right click the event and turn on the alpha channel. For some reasoon the default for Vegas is to bring the alpha in turned off.

1/ If you are zoomed infar enough on your time line the left or right arrow will niove curser one frame at a time.

2/ How did you ungroup the audio and video to begin with. The default is for them to be lad on the time line grouped UNLESS your “ignore event grouping” icon is activated. In that case just inactivate the icon. If you used U to ungroup the video and audio than just highlight the (or select) the audio and video clips and type G (Group)

Again, I think the easiest way is to use an arrow (or pointing finger) from the font Wing Dings and place it as you would a title. You can fully size and move it as you wish.

Wing Dings 3 has numerous different arrows that you can use

Just a small part of an answer for your many questions…. I have had trouble rendering nested projects. I eventually rendered each nested portion separately and put them into one project (no nested portions) and was able to complete the project.

If you only have 4 pictures (family members) then you would want to divide by 2 not 4. This would give you two columns of two or 4 pics.
You may want to move the first one into the desired position by hand and eyeball. Then you can align the others up with it. I am sure there is a mathematical way to do it but thats not my strong point. There are scripts that can accomplish this also.

Boy, I am totally confused here now!

    <>

I assume ‘the program’ is Vegas (Studio or Pro?)
How did you import a DVD file? You state later that you only have a CD player on the computer.
How did you upload the VOB file and where did you upload it to?
The VOB file should have an audio.ts file (which is probably empty) and a video.ts file.

<<, I have now finished the movie and want to burn it to a CD,>>
I assume you mean finished editing and you want to burn it to a DVD not CD. If you have a .veg project that will play back from the time line you should be able to make an MPG2 file with it. You need it as an MPG2 file in order to make a DVD – thats the rules. You can render to a n MPG2 with the original files on a DVD in the DVD player (not CD player) but it will be VERY slow. Better that you transferred the files from the DVD disc to your hard drive. If the original files are on your hard drive you should be able to remove the DVD from the drive and the media will stay in your project (not go offline)

    <>

Importing them into Vegas will not save them to the hard drive, they are still in there original position (the disc)

    <>

You can’t burn a DVD because your files need to be saved to the hard drive AND you need a DVD burner.

    Hope this helps.

Well in NTSC land 1 frame is 1/30 second and I believe in PAL land one frame is 1/25 second. So if you happen to be in PAL land you would just have to place a single frame of your message on an upper track every 5 seconds. You could copy/paste the frame or use a script.

November 4, 2008 at 8:02 pm in reply to: CBR vs. VBR

Can you define a bit constrained environment? Obviously if your video is short and will fit easily on a disk you do not need to use lower bit rate so you could probably run a CBR 8,000,000 or so (SD). So length of the video is one. Are there others? For example, if you are doing a football game where there is constant massive movement but you have only 30 minutes of SD footage. Would this benefit from a VBR 2 pass over a high constant bitrate?
    Thanks

If you are using track motion to move your tracks to the various areas you could use keyframes to move them back to normal or even to other areas if you desire. Yes, it would be easier with more tracks but it can still be done.
