I am working on a 30 minute infomercial using Vegas Pro 8.0b. The computer is running a Intel Core(TM)2 Quad CPU, with 4 GB of memory and Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS. I trimmed the project and moved all trimmed content to an internal HD for more stability than the external HD the project was being edited on. There is some text, quite a few transitions, about 20 total tracks of material using P2 footage as well as Standard Def material, and one nested project as a letterbox for the entire piece. I was prompted with about a 9 hour render set to the DVD architect NTSC default. I left the project rendering and came back after the weekend to find it had failed due to an unknown error @ 84 %.

Am I doing something wrong? Are there other steps to ensuring a good render? Would a computer going into hibernation effect the rendering process? I also feel as thought the quality is very sub par for such an intensive frame by frame render. Is this due to the combination of HD and SD footage? Are there codecs that should be used for combining footage or a template that any of you would suggest?

Thanks in advance for taking a look at this post. I really appreciate the help everyone has provided me in the past.

Just a small part of an answer for your many questions…. I have had trouble rendering nested projects. I eventually rendered each nested portion separately and put them into one project (no nested portions) and was able to complete the project.

    Thanks Terry

I figured that may be an issue. Maybe I will only nest to improve the playback during edits.

It would still be great to get some ideas on the other questions about rendering templates. Thanks again.

    Hi

In addition to what Terry mentioned above; personally I wouldn’t let the computer go into hibernation, especially when rendering. In fact I have al screen savers and hibernation’s turned off. But then this computer is only for video editing. I never go on the internet with it. I just turn off the monitor overnight. I see no need to do this with a desktop workstation. If it’s a laptop your working with, disable all of it. With a laptop you only need some of that stuff while on battery to consrve power.

Secondly, try defragging before you render. I’ve found that to be a problem in the past, and defraging has helped me after working on a bunch of files.

    Hello all,

This is my first time to this forum and I hope I can get some good constructive help.

I have recently rendered a video in the mt2 format. I like doing this since the quality is good and is a widescreen format. I then use the sony DVD architect and burn the copy.

    PROBLEM:
When I play the movie on ANY dvd player, it will NEVER play the whole movie…I always get a message that it cannot read the disc.

Any solutions out there? Could it be the format? Size of the disc? (it only took up 1.2G of a 4.7G DVD)

Is there another format that I can render it in so the quality is good but I do not sacrifice the wide-screen format?

    THANKS!

    Hi Beazly

You posted your question in another person’s thread. No-body will see it. You need to go the the main page of the Sony Vegas forum and start a new post.
