[bouke vahl] “For 45K, what would you buy that has the same feature set / stability / support (well, Avid netherlands support is excellent) and user base with know-how and workarounds? “
A Symphony Nitris? That’s really what they should be selling for. I’m guessing next month we’ll see something close to that.

My understanding is that the EX camera is supported by Avid in everything except the 35Mbps format. (HD)
I’l have a better answer after next Friday:

The New President of Avid, Graham Sharp held an informal lunch at Keycode media in North Hollywood a few months back. I was one of about 30 people who attended. It was a casual Q & A session. I got that he is planning to bring avid back to the forefront. He is also well aware that we are all skeptical. A few things I took away from the event:
They are not going to build hardware unless they can add value. Other than that, third party hardware seems open.
They need to limit the editor line-up, currently there are 14 different edit systems.
XML support is being worked on.
The survey that they did showed Avid had the lowest customer satisfaction of any company that had been surveyed by that survey company.
And finally, there would be product announcements in February.
At one point I stated that Adrenaline EOL and he didn’t refute me. That speaks volumes.

You really need to have the delivery specs. For instance, Discovery wants an international “snap-in” which is an extra few minutes of footage that they can cut into the show to make it longer for int. release.
It sounds like you don’t have a sale yet and you want to cut to time. That can’t really be done, so I would suggest you cut for 28:30 keeping in mind where you could easily lift out up to 6.5 minutes worth of material. Then deal with it when you have a sale.

Traditionally you would have a dark room with a 65K light behind the monitor that was 10 percent of the peak white of your monitor.
With LCDs, the world can change. The blacks which suck on an LCD, start to look better as the ambient light in the room comes up. The exact opposite of the CRT.
in other words, since we are in a transitional stage without appropriate monitors, all bets are off for the time being. What type of monitor are you going to be using?

Which monitor are you talking about, the computer monitor / edit window, or an external monitor for video viewing?

Did you have mutlicam? If so, decompose your sequence and try again. Also make sure the bin with all of the uprezzed clips is open in the project you are trying to relink in.

Adrenaline is already end of life. New announcements have been promised in February since Avid isn’t doing a booth at NAB. I would really be surprised if we don’t hear of a replacement for Adrenaline.
My guess is that Symphony Nitris will come down in price, DS will attempt to be positioned against higher end finishing systems like Smoke and maybe even Pablo, and a third party will provide something to replace the hole left by Adrenaline (about time!)
PS: I have NO knowledge if this is accurate, and if I did, I wouldn’t be able to post it due to NDA.
