I always wondered where Dennis went.
This is why I came back from NAB last year saying Avid would be a server company in three years. Now it’s two years to go.

We need to wait and see what they announce as we get closer to NAB. There are still hardware issues to find out about.

I would wait a few more weeks for the next Avid products announcements. History tells me you will see price drops.

You have to use the ProRes HQ presets with the Redcode QTs. know this breaks all the conventions of FCP regarding the clip codec MUST match the sequence codec, etc. But it is the way Apple and Red worked it out.
This is referenced on Red’s site.
Also, you need to reduce the playback quality from “full” in the FCP timeline. Then it will play in RT.
The quality is horrible, but fine for offline. Here again breaking convention, if you render that timeline, preferably using the float version of render, the quality will be great.
The bottom line is that the QT codec to play back Redcode sacrifices a LOT of qulaity to get that playback. However rendering basically bypasses the codecs engine and uses whatever render engine you send it through. For this reason, you can be better served rendering out the QT refs to ProRes through Compressor (taking advantage of multiprocessor support) before bring into FCP.

Agreed. That is one of the benefits of local groups. Much more personal interaction in which both sides can carry away valuable information.

[Ra-ey Saleh] “Knowing the turnaround of Idol, what you need is a fast drag and drop solution, and that is Resize (HQ optional), in my opinion.”
Better yet, open the console and type in “setresizetype 9” for a higher quality blowup. Allows the use of polyphase filtering.

In Avid, you can use the “Scratch Removal Tool” to handle this if it’s available on your system. If not, you can also use the “Dirt Fix” plugin https://www.3prong.com/
To do what Grinner mentioned, put an exact copy of the shot on the next video layer up. This can be accomplished by selecting the shot on it’s current layer, then option + C (Mac) or Alt + C (PC). This loads the selection in your source monitor. Then move up to the next empty track and overwrite. Now apply a “resize” effect to move the clip over by how many pixels you need, then holding the Alt key, carry over the animatte effect. Holding the Alt key allows the effect to go on top of the resize as opposed to replacing it. Using the tools in animate, cut a hole over the bad pixels through to the layer with the good shifted pixels.
Anyone who is handling your footage on an Avid should know how to do all of this.
Caveats: It is render intensive. The shifted pixels will be obvious when there is motion in that area.

Remember they are the same code base with different features turned on.

Sounds like a rounding error from 10 bit to 8 bit.
