New Sony EX D cam and AVID
Posted by Doug Normington on January 17, 2008 at 3:11 amHi,
I am interested in the new Sony EXD camera but the only stories I see concerning it suggest using Final Cut with it.
Is AVID going to support this? Or am I buying Funal Cut?
thanks!

January 17, 2008 at 3:29 amNo, it’s not supported yet. Yes, it will be. When? Those who know can’t say. Those who say don’t know. If you have to shoot with this camera right now and edit it right now–yes, you should go with Final Cut, if it supports it. No reason to wait when you could be working. Remember, these are just tools and Avid isn’t the right one (right now) for this job.

Just my 2 cents
Beam me up. Kirk out.

January 18, 2008 at 3:39 amSDI out is great if you are into a few shots but when the reason to buy this format is to utilize the editorial aquisition speed of date files and hours of material and not tying up the camera. Using the camera for ingest takes me back to Mickey Mouse production but PRO. I might as well tell my editor to use Vegas. As you can see I am bitter my vendors nor Avid editor told me there was NO way to get this footage directly onto an Avid timeline.
As soon as I can put it all back together it goes back for what better be a full credit and back to using my HVX for this size of camera.

January 18, 2008 at 5:25 amMy understanding is that the EX camera is supported by Avid in everything except the 35Mbps format. (HD)
I’l have a better answer after next Friday:

January 23, 2008 at 12:16 amHello,
You could always convert the camera record memory stick video files then encode to CIneform, then open these into Avid, i think it then converts into Avid if I’mnot mistaken the Cineform files?
Thanks,
Leo
