June 6, 2012 at 6:58 pm in reply to: FCPX 10.04 stable for you?

Great! No issues. I recommend that many who bought it, hated it, and have ignored it, go back to auto update, download 10.04, install it and roll. I’ve edited about 5 commercials and four 30 min TV show, no issues. I still think apple misled folks in terms of RAM though. Those with sluggish playback and spinning balls should know that you need a minimum of 16gb of RAM. Max out that RAM!! on your system for FCPX. I”m running fCPX on a Mid-2012 tower 2.8ghz running 18gb of RAM. Having fun.

April 29, 2012 at 4:42 pm in reply to: FCPX meant for newly rumored iPad HD PRO?

I”m a bit late posting, but I teach during an after school program on the high school level iMove on iPad2. All editing is finger based. FCPX is designed for this. Only a matter of time and we will be gliding our fingers over a tablet computer that is much faster than a laptop, equal to an 8 core desktop, small and with a lot of battery juice! And don’t forget that the Kinect technology of Microsoft will one day allow us to edit in mid-air. 🙂

    March 25, 2012 at 1:48 am in reply to: FCPX 10.0.3 Blu-Ray just sits…???

I just left it alone. I have toast and encore cs5.5. Toast is the only software that will burn a blu-ray with the brand internal burner I bought from micro center for 99.00. Encore cs5.5 does the same as fcpx 10.0.3…sits. Could be that both software needs something specific in the hardware to work. Toast may not.

February 12, 2012 at 6:54 pm in reply to: FCPX 10.03 crashing on project launch

To Jeremy: Move the Events and Project out of the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Pro Projects folders, then launch FCPX.

Hey Jeremy, I moved the projects and events folders and FCPX 10.03 loaded fine. In terms of the 10.7.3 hell I mentioned, after installing 10.7.3 I got the spinning wheel of death on load up with the grey apple logo. Apparently this is one of the errors when updating and installing via the net. So, I followed some steps provided by other sites and downloaded the 10.7.3 combined install and I’m all good now. Have to thank having my time machine backup. As far as 10.7.3 and FXP X 10.03, I can now get into it fine, but once you click a timeline to open it, CRASH!! LOL I feel like I’m back in the 90’s with mac and windows with all the risky updates.

December 15, 2011 at 9:02 pm in reply to: Compound clips-Transition Errors

I found that even on the primary timeline the “Transition to/from Black” is greyed out for some reason. And this might be because of the type of transition, which is a custom design from Freebie FX.

December 15, 2011 at 3:32 pm in reply to: Compound clips-Transition Errors

Thanks for the help everyone. I totally missed/overlooked the right click option. Great info. Prior to relieving this info I turned each layer into a storyline, applied the transitions and it worked. But that is too many steps. I’ll make sure and right click and use the “Transition to/from Black” function. It’s becoming easier and easier to use this program. Thanks again.

November 16, 2011 at 5:24 pm in reply to: 2nd part of new Walter Murch MacVideo Interview

I haven’t had a chance to view the 2nd part of the Murch interview. I do agree with his assessment of FCPX in the first video, which was about Apple designing software that they can move away from and allow 3rd party company’s to alter and MOD if you will for their products and clients. This is an old strategy, one used by Adobe with the 5.0 to 6 series of Premiere. I remember buying a Bravado video capture card and they customized the code for Premiere to work with the Bravado. But I like that strategy and I think it will work for Apple. I”ve been editing on the first version of FCPX and it works great for me because I”m more into ENG & EFP. However, I can see why it’s just not there for those working on long form projects and need to share over a LAN, exchange metadata, etc.

November 6, 2011 at 4:16 am in reply to: Encore CS5.NO AUTOSAVE?!!!

Thanks for responding. So if you get a crash and re-open with a blank project then you are just out of luck? Wow. I’m coming from apple DVD Studio Pro and even with a power failure you can reboot, restart DVD Studio Pro and most of your work will return.

October 14, 2011 at 3:36 am in reply to: Pros and Cons of switching to MAC.

i used to build pc’s. loved it. im mac now & love it as well. go with the os you are comfortable with the most & wat your pocket book says. mac & pc, same thing just a different hat. software wise, mac or pc, always have after effects & photoshop. pc side for editing, prem pro, avid or vegas. mac side, avid, prem pro or fcpx. im an avid & fcp7 fan, but the new fcp is great, faster, & can do most of what i do in fcp-7. and im editing on it knocking out content that is on deadline every week. but just my opinion. these are all just tools. i like big grey & silver hammers for building, someone else likes black & red. subjective.
