Thanks for the info. Did some searching and saw where old FCPX projects won’t open under the new 10.0.1 udpate. Is this true? Didn’t see any solutions. So, I guess I’m worried making the install if it works.

September 4, 2011 at 4:36 pm in reply to: Should I create proxy & optimized media?

I”m using Snow Leapord. I do have a lot of space though; 8TB software RAID backup, another external eSATA RAID box for three drives (3 TB total) and I’m using the internal macpro slots with three drives. a 1TB, a 2TB and a 750gig drive. I’ll be spending more money soon on extra space. I’m considering 10,000 rpm drives, although they can be hard to find and sizes aren’t as large. But definitely 7200rpm. the beachball is annoying so i’ll definitely implement the tweaks all of you suggested. thanks

September 3, 2011 at 3:04 am in reply to: FCPX. Not bad. Better then previous thought

yeah he is arrogant, but after watching his presentation i had a bit more faith in the program, then i just dove in. And as I stated in my first post, not bad. I’m really doing all that I had done in FCP7 except for a few things. I was big on button assignments and I haven’t even attempted to see if that is a function or not. And I’m a bit concerned about RAM. I’ve got 7 gigs on a 2.8ghz Quad Core Nahalem with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1gig of RAM, yet I’m getting some spinning pin wheels. Not a lot but enough to notice that it is annoying. Probably because I’m just importing my DSLR H.264 directly in without optimization. I”m going to keep at it. It does work. And hopefully BlackMagic & AJA will have some hardware I can use with it. FCP7 will stay installed on my system because I may need to go back to older projects. As much as I love Avid & had fun in the 90’s with PRemiere PRo, I just don’t want to go back to those. 🙂

the layering & compositing for right now is not being able to copy & paste attributes, drag a filter & appply it at one time to all layers or at least layers above the storyboard space. and most of this is just acquiring the right workflow, so im positive ill get there. thanks for the info. will definitely use it.

August 28, 2011 at 1:16 am in reply to: Imported clips not playing full length

Thanks Steve. I let it go ahead and render in the background and then i changed how the project library was showing items. once i had the clips appearing in numerical order i could see the entire shot. i’ll get used to it after a while. a few rainbow wheels, but i guess i need to bump up my RAM past 7gigs.

July 27, 2011 at 3:44 pm in reply to: Bob Zelin and all: advice for Panasonic AV-HS400A

HI Bob, I’m trying to get help with our new AV-HS400A. Your post was the only I found on Creative Cow so, I hope you don’t mind me bugging you. I can’t seem to find a CG for this particular switcher. What are you using to bring in overlays, banners, lower 3rds and animations to the AV-HS400A? We have a Globecaster that was used with our now defunct Abekas 8150, but the engineer we hired can’t seem to find how to get the Globecaster alpha out to the AV-HS400A. Any leads you can give me would be great! Thanks
