I’ll just throw in my teenie weenie comment on the latest version of FCPX which is 10.06. And I gotta say, I love being able to export and the export is a hidden process. Instead of sitting and waiting to render or watching an export bar, I can go on to other timelines and edit. Plus I can export multiple timelines with this new hidden feature while not having to do it in Compressor. That is still an option, but this is very liberating for me. I primarily edit sports packages and once I’m done with one i jump on to the next and now i don’t have any wait time. It’s weird getting used to because I”m used to seeing an export window. I have a lot of praise for FCPX and some complaints, but my guess is that down the road all of this will occur on a tablet with a stylus or your finger. just look at windows 8. Just imagine what Avid Media Composer will look like running on 8. Cool!

i bought a new mid-2012 MacPro and I wish I would have waited, but I needed the upgrade. To get my FCPX 10.06 to run faster is that I periodically zap the pram, every month do a SMC reset and then every six months a PMU switch reset. The pram zap of course is something you can do a lot more. I have 20MB of RAM and even then FCPX can drag over time. In addition I’m running a 9TB RAID with internal SATA drives. No external USB, but I’m looking to invest in a CalDigit USB 3.0 PCIe card. Hoping that along with the SATA will allow FCPX to run a bit faster. I know its nowhere near thunderbolt speed but the Mid 2010’s can’t accept a thunderbolt pcie card. I read where thunderbolt is hardwired on the motherboard. I might follow behind some of you and get either a new iMac or laptop with thunderbolt.

November 4, 2012 at 11:39 pm in reply to: FCP 6 Won’t Export QT Reference!!!! Only self-contained!!with 10.06 and using the export file tool, no progress bar appears. its almost as if it is not exporting. then a few minutes later, quicktime lauches with your exported video. what gives?

Yeah Andrew, that’s what I”m waiting for. I bought a Canon Vixia HF R32 just for the sports highlights I shoot. It will send video to my iPad via wi-fi, cutting my editing time down by a lot. I”m just waiting for FCPX to be ported over to the iPad at some point. But I’m all in favor of an Avid pro app for the iPad as well. Competition is good.

thanks for responding. i’m not familiar at all with writing apple scripts. i’m wondering if there is a way for an applescript to display all the XML data in a basic outline layout that is easy to read, similar to the FCP7 marker list export. hmmm…more research. thanks again

i had a power failure today. of course it would happen when i don’t have my battery backup in place. but once i rebooted and launched fcpx 10.05 the entire project/timeline was gone! i tried opening it and got the, “this could be corrupted,” message. however, i do have the nice Sans Digital RAID timemachine backup. i copied the project file from there and deleted the corrupted version. when i relaunched fcpx all was well. Whether its the old fcpx, avid, perm…doesn’t matter, we have to have a backup, backup and backup to the backup thats backing up the backups. LOL

I”m in agreement with all of that and one tiny addition most may not care about and that is being able to color code when logging. The color coding of the clip in the bin as well as color coding marks would be great. Currently when you hit the M key your clip needs to be expanded to see the mark or you have to catch it in the preview timeline above. I”m old school and need some serious visuals and being able to code several clips as blue or red just makes things easier for me. But your request for copy & past attributes is great. That feature should have been carried over from FCP7.

I’ve worked on Avid, Lightworks, Newscutter, Premiere, Vegas & FCP7. Not leaving FCPX. Love it. And it is really designed for tablet editing which is why many hate it. I can’t wait to use it on a tablet with a Vixia series camera sending the footage to the tablet wirelessly, having a reporter log in the vehicle and me editing within an hour later on the tablet. Love it!

I’ve been using FCPX since 10.0 and its been smooth sailing til now. I’m getting hammered. Something is corrupted and I’ve narrowed it down to two projects I have in one event. I’m using event manager and preferences manager for FCPX 10.04 and my Final cut will only launch and immediately crash after all windows appear. Been happening since yesterday. I’ve copied event & project files, ken stone fcpx tips, etc. nothing. And i’m on a deadline. Some of the error code is pasted below. There has to be some type of way to get these project (timelines) back and preventing them from causing FCPX to crash/quit.
