thanks David, that is good to know…maybe that’s why CompUSA has it on such a good special right now? : ) maybe i should go ahead and get it with the 2-year replacement warranty and just hope it works great for a day less than 2-years?! : )

or i could go with the Dell like Shane was suggesting…

    thanks guys.

July 31, 2007 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Graphics Card choice?

i’m about to order one of these X1900s, and when i search online i’m getting wildly different prices for “ATI Radeon X1900 XT”, from $189 to $699. how can i tell the difference on what is what??? maybe with my ignorance, i should just order through my “dealer” (CompUSA)?

also, looking at getting a second monitor, but that will be another post…

    howdy,

i’m almost in the same boat, but my G5 is a bit newer (same old GeForce card, though). i’ve been pointed to this 1900 card by several people so far, and it’s probably what i’m going to buy. i first went to CompUSA (where i have a corporate account and buy most of my stuff), but then found the card online for almost half the price of CompUSA. it seems to be a highly recommended card, and if you search over on the other FCP forum, i think you’ll find that to be true.

i’m also in the market to buy a second monitor to have dual-screen editing, as well as a better (hopefully HD?) output monitor. looking at a 24″ Gateway for just under $600…

July 21, 2007 at 6:00 pm in reply to: HDV Timecode Errors

i’ve just tried ALL these suggestions with FCP 6.0.1 and STILL the problem persists. i’m trying to recapture some HDV clips via batch capture. i’ve tried unchecking “use original clip settings” and no dice. i’m heading to the HDV forum to see what answers they might bestow…

thanks for the reply…i heard from someone else that i need to do that through the menu, which i will do shortly, but right now i’m trying to recapture some HDV footage…

July 20, 2007 at 8:02 am in reply to: reinstall system: G5 or Tiger software first?

sorry about my unclarity. i found out the (3) G5 discs included OS 10.3.9, and the OS X Tiger disc had 10.4…so you’re right, all i needed was the (1) 10.4 Tiger disc. from the way they were labeled, it made it look like the G5 discs had software specifically for the G5, so i was unclear which ones to load.

July 18, 2007 at 9:41 pm in reply to: ALL HELP NEEDED DUE TOMORROW!!!

    hi ed,

hey, it would be fun to turn this into a faith discussion forum (oh, the moderators would have a cow, wouldn’t they?) but suffice to say that i don’t think i assumed any more than the history books tell us. it’s pretty much a historical “fact” (as far as “facts” can be trusted these days anyway) that a man named Jesus was actually crucified (as were THOUSANDS in those days) on a hill called “Golgotha” around the year 33 AD (possibly as late as 36 AD). even non-Christian historians confirm this.

now, what a person DOES with that bit of information (as well as the ensuing resurrection) is where faith and religion come into play.

July 18, 2007 at 9:12 pm in reply to: Compressor Multi-task?

hmmm… it has always worked for me just as you described.

i’ve just upgraded to FCP 6 and haven’t tried it there yet, but in 5.0.4 i would open a sequence (or select it in the ), go to “export/compressor” select my output settings for that sequence, then click right back into FCP and open or select another sequence and repeat until done. i usually do this before going to bed, and when i wake, i’m usually happily surprised to see them all done. occaisionally i’ll get one that appears to render the whole time, but upon playback it is nothing but a black screen…or sometimes green. . .

    what version are you using??

thanks for helping out a bonehead!
