    absolutely not!

i am far too hypocritical to correct others’ mistakes and expect to be perfect myself!!! : )

(by the way, is my apostrophe after “other” above in the right place? i always forget that one…)

    : )

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

yes, i do understand. ying-yang, karma, the golden rule…

and by the way, it’s “cavalry”…”Calvary”* is where Jesus was crucified

    : )

i have to admit i am probably one of the worst offenders of the “ask-for-help-get-my-answer-and-run” syndrome, but i’m trying to do better, and trying to offer some advice when i can (but usually my knowledge is a mere pittance in compared to some of the gurus here).

  • hi walter,

as you probably see in my plethora of other posts today and last night, i’ve basically upgraded to FCP 6 over last night and today. had a few disc read problems, but it seems to have “worked”.

after FCP was installed, i pulled up a few 1080i clips that had already been captured and they played beautifully. when i went to save my old 5.0.4 project file, it was then that it asked me about correcting the “shift fields” dealy. i said, “no”, it finished, and all clips (so far) still play fine with no flickers….

it’s a little scary because my install didn’t seem to go that smoothly, yet the project and clips are playing fine…

i’ve since now also done the upgrade to 6.0.1 and this same project is still fine. of course, i’m only viewing it on the computer screen and an SD monitor, so maybe it doesn’t show up until i’m on an HD screen?

    i dunno…

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

really? i had heard of the centering part to be on even numbers (i’ve even heard some say they should be multiples of 4 or 8 – anyone with an official answer here?), but had not heard that keyframe numbers should be even as well…

July 18, 2007 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Font Suitcase fonts don’t appear in FCP

hey, and on this subject, i notice this especially in Motion (1) that i have a huge list of fonts, but a whole bunch of them (yes, that’s precisely the number!) aren’t different – they default to a sort of simple sans seriffed font.

    huh?

did you happen to upgrade to FCP 6 recently? i’ve heard some are having flicker problems, but so far only with 1080i material, which wouldn’t affect you. also, i just now upgraded to 6 and have had no flicker problems with my already-captured 1080i material.

have you moved the clips recently? it sounds like they might be playing off a slower drive or at least “slower-connected” drive like via firewire?

any idea what changed just before the flickering started? full drive maybe???

July 18, 2007 at 7:01 pm in reply to: RAM upgrade questions for the board

i just added 2 GB yesterday, when my system was FCP 5.0.4. my “System Profile” was showing all 4 GB, so i’m assuming FCP was able to access the 4GB as well. these chips were added to my original (4) 256 MB chips, which then had (2) 500 MB chips added last year. so, all 8 slots are currently filled. the next go ’round will be to throw those 256’s away (unless any of you want them from me at a really good price?) : ) and replace with 1 or 2 GB each. i’ve heard the G5 (Dual 2 GHz) can only accept a max of 8 GB RAM?

the funniest part was when i got back from the store and added my new (2) GB chips yesterday, i read a post here saying that Kingston chips were not good. guess what i had just installed? : )

so far, so good, but i’ll post more if i have any problems…

July 18, 2007 at 4:29 pm in reply to: FCS 2 main install disc not showing up…

so i inserted the last few discs, which opened fine (though via a new finder window and not from the “Installer” requester), but they all installed fine. then i went back to LiveType Media 2…and it opened in a Finder window. it installed fine, but now i have this frozen Installer window still asking for LiveType Media 2 that won’t close and won’t go away….

i hate to do a Force Quit, or worse yet a hard reboot, as it seems it could corrupt the install…but what else can i do right now? i can’t get back to the “finish” part of the install menu because that frozen window is still asking for LiveType Media 2 (even though it has now been installed, though just not via Installer).

maybe i have gremlins in my house???

July 18, 2007 at 3:25 pm in reply to: FCS 2 main install disc not showing up…

the LiveType Media 2 disc was not being read either. after about 10 tries (plus letting it sit there all night to see if it might happen), i finally just went on to the Motion Content disc and that one is installing fine. . .

i’m guessing i could probably install the LiveType Media 2 disc later if needed, without screwing up too much inside of Studio 2???

thanks for helping out a bonehead!
