No, I have never reinstalled the system. My son tells me that he reinstalls Windows now and then. Yes, it seems to be a waste of time. But this time I may need to do it

I tried to eliminate and reinstall Compressor, without success.

BTW, I have had problems with Compressor for a long time, it cannot create reference files. Exept that it does now and then, for no apparent reason.

    Puuh …

So the re-intall of FCS was not enough. Do you mean FCS and Mac OS X? Nothing more? So I can just copy back all other programs and all user files? Takes some time …

By the the way, seems like Compressor works allright when it works on its own, and gives this problem only when I send FCP-sequences to Compressor.

Thanks. I´ll see when I do it correctly.

Close all open sequences with one click.

When Auto Render is active, I want to see which sequence is rendered, or – even better – a list like the Batch Export window.

    Upgrade FCP.
Some people use ProRes, some don´t.
I have not seen any improvement in quality when I used ProRes.
    Use Compressor.
Choose the setting for DVD – best quality 90 min.
Copy this setting and activate “Frame controls” which increases quality.
Save the new setting and use it further on

    Hi, Greg,

So I wasn´t completely wrong, then? I will start with your suggestion of -20.

    Thank you.

I searched the forum, and found a thread about killing jobs (not Jobs …:-)

I reset Compressor Background Processing and trashed Compressor and Batsh Monitor Preferences.

After that, clicking the “x” button had the expected result.

    Happy again!

August 24, 2009 at 7:06 pm in reply to: Rendering Advice for Final cut HD

Rendering takes its time, but if you export to a different codec it could take much longer. On my not so powerful iMac, an export to H.264 takes around 30 times longer than real time (I use USB harddrives).

If I need to do that export on a larger scale, there is the Matrox CompressHD (there is an ad on this very page), which is 30 times faster than my iMac (have to buy a Mac Pro as well …)

    Flip4Mac, I didn´t know that.

I tried it, but the transcoding was even slower than H.264.

But I have one more option.

    Thanks, all of you.

    Michael, you are so right!

DVDSP shows that actual size is 720×576.
I use QT player to check quality directly after transcoding, instead of putting in footage into DVDSP and creating a disk image.

    Thanks, Michael.
