Hi Andy,
I rerendered the files with even “full” checked. I still do not get reference files. In fact I get large files and smaller files that still are not reference files, at random as I see it.
An example is a sequence of 20 sekonds XDCAM EX 35 Mbits VBR. It is not edited other than the clip is brought in to the sequence. It is rendered, like you suggested, with all options checked, even the “Full” option.
1 Export > QuickTime Movie … > Current Settings : Audio and Video. “Recompress” unchecked, “Make movie selfcontained” unchecked.
2 The created file is 8 MB
3 I open the file in QT Player and save it as selfcontained movie.
4 The created file is now 89 MB
5 From QT Player I save again, now as a reference movie
6 The created fil is 20 K.
So, I get files with three sizes. Strange, I think.
I should add that I have created lots of reference movies in the past and have done it whenever it was suitable.

You really should use ClipBrowser to move you clips to the computer.
Then change clip names an set their status in the CB.
After that, use XDCam Transfer Tool to import.

Sorry, I did not manage to get the links properly:

Is this acceptable resolution on Zoom 90 and 99? Now I have stopped using longest telephoto, which decreases the zoom to about 10X.

Thanks for the tip, Lot.
It seems to work now.
BTW, I had problems with DVD Studio Pro, where formatting failed without any reason. That one was solved by restarting the computer. I didn´t think that was supposed to be needed in OS X …

Hi, Noah,
After using many other workflows, I used yours: export to ProRes HQ DV-PAL 16:9 -> Compressor DVD Best Quality 90 min.
Fast and a good result – I will stick to this workflow.
But …
… earlier I have used “Sharpen edges” filter in Compessor with improved result. So I tested that filter here too, and could find a slightly sharper result at settings 5 and 8. Noise was also more pronounced, but changes were really subtle, probaby not possible to detect when clips are not compared in a sequence..
Do you ever use this filter?

If one is aiming to shoot for BBC, then add the Convergent Design´s NanoFlash to the camera. Seems to be a rather cheap upgrade, without needing a new camera.
Still too expensive for me, though …

Clint, you are right, I didn´t think of that since I am the only one handling the media in this two-person company. But the idea of the business growing makes your remark valid indeed.

I have the SxS cards. I tested it, unvolontarily, in brackish water. After putting it in distilled water and drying, it is working well. Nothing lost.

December 8, 2008 at 1:32 pm in reply to: Is “export to xdcam” the holy grail of archiving?Hi, Don,
In this forum I have told about quite a lot of lost footage, due to poor DVD-media. After a long e-mail correspondens with the seller, I got the same number of discs with good media (Verbatim DVD-DL). So I know the importance of good archive media.
The XDCAM disks is in a cartrige. Is that the only difference to Blu-ray disks? Or is the disk itself of a superior quality?
I have read a BD-test which said that BD is very resistant to scratches.
Or is it the XDCAM burner much better than a Blu-ray burner?
