You will also notice that you do not have A Pack. It now built into Compressor. If you are in desperate need of the MPEG Export, you can download it.
There have been many posts regarding this change. You just have to change your work flow. Actually, you will like it because you can encode your video and continue to work in FCP.

Update to the latest version 5.04 and you will be fine. The plug-in problem was solved in 5.01

I have used the D1000 with FCP. The way I got my files into FCP was by using a software program for PC only called FireStore DV File Converter. You can find more information at http://www.focusinfo.com.
Capturing to the deck is straight forward.

The pen needs to be completely still, preferebly out of your hands. This also applies to the mouse. Any movement will cause scrubbing to stutter.
This problem began with FCP 5.

Make all your clips in your timeline offline. Open up the sequence and rename it for your new project. For your new project, name your clips with the exact names your template has. It helps if you number them chronological (1,2,3,…). Now for the magic. Select your clips in your timeline and reconnect your media. Render your timeline and you have a new project.
The harder and more time comsuming way of doing it is using the replace edit function.

It has been said here on the Cow a million times, you need to watch on an NTSC monitor. Any TV set will do. A broadcast monitor would be sharper.

The ONLY deck you should consider is the DSR-11. It is a workhorse. It will last you a long time.

Pat,
For editing Beta SP with FCP you have a few options. The most inexpensive card is the Decklink SP from BlackMagic Design. That will run you $600.
AJA’s LA, LH, and IO will all do the same.
For editing 8 or 10 bit uncompresed, you will need very fast hard drives.
You might want to consider a DVCam deck for DV work. The DSR-11 is an excellent entry level deck. The DSR-45 is great if you want to connect your Beta SP deck to it via Component.
As far as places to buy. Midwest Media Group in Schaumburg and ProMax in Irvine, CA are very good system integrators. You can save a lot of money building the system yourself. To save yourself on sales tax, stay away from CDW and Mac Mall. You can purchase directly from Amazon.
The Chicago Final Cut Pro Users Group is also a great place to get expert advise. I’ll send you a personal e-mail regarding our party tomorrow night.

How about going XLR into your camera? Record to tape then capture into FCP. You either have XLR or 1/8″ into your camera.
