From what I’ve read FCP runs very well on the Macbook as long as you don’t need any RT out of Motion.

No you can’t – you would need an HD SDI capture card.

You can’t capture 720P 24 on the Canon. you can capture 1080 24F. FCP 4.5 doesn’t support HDV on the Canon and even 5.1 doesn’t support the 24F mode over firewire, however if you have an HD capture card you can capture 24F via HD SDI.

Otherwise reinstall OSX and FCP that’s what we had to do.

However,
we edit on Final Cut and I note there is no codec for 720 25P or 50P (Thanks Apple!) Is there a workflow for capturing these framerates using HDSDI capture through the BMD or Kona cards?

That’s some key information for me Steve. I had spoke to one of the guys at Bracknell in the UK about this but I don’t think I understood him fully. If I can shoot at 50fps and maintain that frame rate for output then that’s all I need. Plus the fact I could get some great slowmos If I need as well.

Used it once in an edit, found it was difficult and illogical. Haven’t used it again in the last 3 years. Copy sequence and cut and pasting works fine for me. I’ll only nest if it’s a single pass like adding a filter or ARC ing a finished sequence.
It is a limitation, you can work round it if you need to. Doesn’t suit everyone though.

I’m glad FCP doesn’t do it ! after a long session where you not paying as much attention as you should, it would be very easy to get into trouble if FCP just pulld your sequence up by 15 frames every now and then!
