Issue with Final Cut and HDV on a G5 Quad – Says the codec is missing
Posted by Robin on May 16, 2006 at 3:47 amI’m opening a project I made on a G5 Dual in FCP on a Quad. Says there’s a missing codec. I’m using the latest version of FCP. What the hell?

May 16, 2006 at 4:00 amSounds like the quad didn’t have FCP correctly installed on it. The installation of FCP includes the HDV codec. Maybe an FCP uninstall and reinstall is in order…unless you used some sort of special codec on your first machine then install that codec.

One of the upgrades, possibly 5.03 to 5.04 is known to blow away the HDV codecs on some computers. It happened to a freind of mine when he upgraded, but not to me. He got the codec from another machine and installed it manually. All was fine afterward. So, if you have any friends with FCP just ask them to give you the codec.

May 16, 2006 at 10:48 amYou had to reinstall OSX? That seems a bit dramatic. Did you have to do a complete erase and install or just a simple one?

May 16, 2006 at 1:30 pmBefore going that far… Check Apple’s support site for this problem. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with a Quicktime upgrade. You could also do a search here on the Cows. There were several people having this problem a few months ago that I saw in some posts on this forum.
Did you recently upgrade any software like FCP or Quicktime?
