Actually if you’re working in HDV a broadcast monitor is actually more important as it better shows up any limitations in the footage, particularly focus issues which is the biggest area of concern in all HD shooting, it’s very easy to miss soft shots on domestic and LCD monitors. I’d always have a broaddcast CRT in the chain, even if most end users will be watching the results on LCD and Plasma.
The JVC DTV 17 is another CRT monitor to consider.

The viewfinder on the 330 is appalling, focus is critical in HD and the 1″ viewfinder is more or less unusable, you can spec the 2″ viewfinder from the 350 which is much more usable.
Picture quality is the same withut the trick FX.

There are lots of templates for Photoshop out there if you want DVD covers, just Google.

Latest I heard today is that 35mb and Proxy is usable in the official release software, you can also write back to disc, edit the proxys etc.
Should be out by end of June.

Shoot 35MBs, capture via SDi to DVCPro100, should work well – hoping to test the theory next week

It would pay for itself in one keying job I would think – It’s a fairly difficult interface to get used to, but even if you didn’t use many of it’s features, it is still a handy add-on for FCP to have sitting on your Desktop, it now costs less than some plug-ins!

As everyone else has said USB 2.0 is no use for editing despite it’s theoretical speed. HDV is VERY processor intensive the fact that your clips play back fine and then don’t when you apply a filter suggests that the CPU can’t handle the dynamic RT, providing you have set dynamic RT to be on. Fact is that an iMac is not the best system to be editing HDV on, a used dual G5 2.0 would have cost the same and edited much faster.
Having said that I regularly edit HDV on my 20″ iMac G5 2.0 at home, it’s very slow but once you know the limitations it does work, but forget any RT playback of filters.

At a top price of $99 for the crossgrade I don’t think Apple are anywhere near Avid’s upgrade prices just yet.
