No problems at all with 5.11, not a single crash in weeks of operation – similar spec system to you.
Have you trashed prefs, repaired permissions etc?

I have to agree about the image quality, it is superb. Very close to the pictures from the 750. I’m just editing a project in FCP that was shot with 750’s and XDCam HD 530’s and the pictures grade together very well.
I’ve captured via HDSDi to the DVCPro codec and it looks very good. I did some side by side comparisons with 10 Bit HD uncompressed and there wasn’t a lot of difference. It would still be nice to use the 35mbs setting inside FCP though and then recompress the master to uncompressed. I gather thay may be an update shortly that will enable the 35mbs codec.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with your camera!

5.11 is meant to fixed a lot of problems with Media Management, has anyone tried it? or do all FCP users not bother with the online/offline workflow.
I’ve managed to avoid the media manager for the past couple of years but I have to online a project with it next week so I’ll be ineterested to see how it works, or not, as the case may be.

Well the new MacPro is as fast as it can be bearing in mind the available processors! When FCP6/Leopard comes out we are going to see the real speed gains we need. I just hope they fix the Media Mangler too.
Avid does work better in some areas, but bearing in mind the price it should. If FCP hadn’t come along we’d be paying ever bigger $$$ for Avid systems.

Yes,
you have to uncheck something in the RAID Admin setup, but I’m away from the office and I can’t remember what it is. I think it’s disable write caching or something like that.
There is a support note on the Apple site about it.

As long as we get 24/25F support and the 35mb XDcam HD codec in a maintenance release, I’ll be happy to wait for Leopard next spring.
