I have that deck and do that all the time.

You’ll need to go into the Menu and then go down to the I-Link settings and under there will be all your choices.

We have ours set to Squeeze on the down convert because when we drop it into our 4 x 3 time line it gives us the letterbox look that we are after.

I’ve heard some funky things about how this new system works with monitors.

You have to have the same size monitors, for example both have to be 24″, you can’t have a 24″ and a 30″.

And this is with Apple monitors, so you can only image how they work with Third party monitors.

My local rep told me this and he heard it from his Apple rep.

    Just passing it along.

March 30, 2009 at 1:49 pm in reply to: Page torn effect in Final Cut

There is nothing built into Final Cut that will do that, but there may be some third party plug ins to get that look.

What I have done is take a piece of paper and tear it in half the scan the 2 halves and use them has mattes.

Put them under the video layer that you want to remove, but above the video layer you want to reveal them under Composite setting choose Travel Matte-Luminace. One you have the torn pages you can use a page turn transition to take them off or whatever you wish.

March 10, 2009 at 3:43 pm in reply to: Re: WMV’s and FCP

I have used WMV files successfully in FCP.

We did a project for Microsft and for some strange reason they were “unable” to give us Qicktime Files.

I have also had the same issue that Roger is talking about.

I can’t remember exactly what I did to resolve it but I’m pretty sure that if you go into system preferences and then the Flip for Mac preferences and then the player tab, there is something in there that will fix it.

    Mine are set as follows.

    Play Movies Automatically (Unchecked)

    Open Files Immediately (Checked)

    Open AVI Files (Checked)

Double check yours and if anything is different try changing it to match mine.

    Good luck.

March 4, 2009 at 12:33 am in reply to: Masking a color correction filter?

You can’t crop the filter, but this maight work for you.

Set the text and logo as two identical tracks.
Then apply the filter to the top one and crop out the logo.
Then on the bottom track you can crop out the text.

January 22, 2009 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Brand new iMac – upgrade FCS 2 or not?

The disks I have are 6.0, but your may be 6.0.1.

    Apple currently has 6.0.5 out.

I just upgraded all 5 of my systems to 6.0.5 and have not have any issue.

If you don’t have any projects that are in the middle of work then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Do you have any other systems there or is it just the 1 that you are talking about?
