I had a project were some of the clients b-roll came in wmv format. It imported fine and was able to use the footage without any problems. But now every time I start a new project I get this notice titled “Flip4Mac WMV” and then it’s goes through a process like it’s importing files. Even though the new project is completely unrelated and there are no wmv files to import. How can I make FCP stop going through this process each time?

    Hi Roger,
I’ve never heard before of this kind of behave from FC. neither I’ve heard of anybody successfully editing WMV files in FC.
I really don’t know what to recommend you. i guess that I would start by trashing the Flip4Mac preferences (Preference panels).
I would also have a look to the Info window of your footage. make sure is set to “Open with: QT or FC”.
If this doesn’t works, trash FC preferences.

I have used WMV files successfully in FCP.

We did a project for Microsft and for some strange reason they were “unable” to give us Qicktime Files.

I have also had the same issue that Roger is talking about.

I can’t remember exactly what I did to resolve it but I’m pretty sure that if you go into system preferences and then the Flip for Mac preferences and then the player tab, there is something in there that will fix it.

    Mine are set as follows.

    Play Movies Automatically (Unchecked)

    Open Files Immediately (Checked)

    Open AVI Files (Checked)

Double check yours and if anything is different try changing it to match mine.

    Good luck.

    Steve,

I opened up the Flip4Mac preferences and actually unchecked the “Open local files immediately”. It seems to have done the trick. I’ve opened several projects with no problem. I even opened up the project that started this whole issue and it still never came back. So thanks for the suggestion, it worked.
