Still images burns a lot of RAM, and 4-megapixel images are pretty darned large for video work. If you have Photoshop you could write a script (action) to resize all the images in a folder to a smaller size.

If you found one, it would probably not be at a price you would want to pay.
Also the speed of USB2 and Firewire are very similar. The published speeds are the burst speeds, or more specifically, the speed in or out of the buffer, not the disc platters. When you are moving large files, such as video, the only speed spec that matters is the sustained data rate – which is much less than the burst rate and far, far slower than the USB or Firewire data rates.
Why not just put the drives on one PC and share it over a gigabit ethernet or firewire network?

“Geez, everyone is so anti-Norton.”
Not me. I’ve never had a problem with NAV on any of my PC’s. The only thing I did differently on my editing PC is to turn off the email scanning because I don’t do email from that PC. Otherwise, I don’t bother turning NAV off to edit or render. Resource hog? Which resources? It only takes a noticable bite from my processor time when it’s actually doing a scan, and even then it doesn’t cause anything to “freeze up”.

A trick that I use is to use the two-column line for my actor’s names and in the text file list them as: “Firstname Middlename [tab] Lastname”. In the style properties, set the left column to be right justified and the right column to be left justified. Adjust the center width to an em space (about .15).
The result is that the names are centered on the space between the first and last names.

I recently bought a Firepod interface for my recording requirements and I was surprised to see how noisy my PC sound card was by comparison. I got the Firepod because I can record 8 michrophones simultaneously on a laptop running Vegas. If you don’t need 8, you can get the Firebox which is similar but two channels.

Look at the end actions again because this is what “hold” does.

Most of us get along just fine with 512Mb or 1Gb or memory, but 120Gb of memory, that thing must scream. RAM is memory, the 120Gb is your disc storage.
Your system specs are mostly fine, but I would add more RAM. 256K is the very minimum you need to run Windows and one application. RAM is cheap, so get a Gigabye.
You are probably seeing compression artifacts from encoding the MPEG at too high a bit rate.
