Newbie – system hangs after just a few entries
OK – I admit that I am not too far from being right out of the box with this software, so please forgive me if my situation seems obvious.
I have old slides that my dad took that I want to burn to a DVD. I have a ton of 4 mega-pixel slides and I want to add a sound track. Right now I am just experimenting but here’s what happens…. I drag a cd track into the music time-line & it plays just fine. I drag a single slide into the video timeline (fade in, fade out) and it works just fine. I drag a second slide into the timeline, still ok. I drag a 3rd and everything slows way down and eventually hangs. I have to “cntl-alt-delete” to end the program (which itself takes several minutes) and no matter what I do from there I am faced with latch-up and eventually a hard-boot.
Any reccomendations? I have downloaded patch 6.0a but not 6.0d (yet).

How mucg ram do you have – You need a minimun of 1 GB. 2 GB works better.

Still images burns a lot of RAM, and 4-megapixel images are pretty darned large for video work. If you have Photoshop you could write a script (action) to resize all the images in a folder to a smaller size.

4K, that is pushing the threshold for Vegas. Have had render problems with large scale pics especially when using ‘pan crop’ settings. As Steve suggested, strongly advise to follow his pointers and if no pan crop settings are used resize your stills to the project settings size. If you dont have Photoshop and don’t want to spend that sort of dollars go download Irfanview which can do a ‘batch conversion’ on a whole lot of images in one go. Does a very good job and costs zip. Free download at:
Download the plugins pack as well. You will find Irfanview useful for many things.
