When you create new project, Set it to DESKTOP editing mode
then you can make your own custom resolutions.
You don’t have to choose from the presets.

I am not sure how you want to incorporate PremierePro into your
pipeline but here is how we do:

1) CG/Animations coming from 3D APP rendered in 1280 x 720 @ 24FPS
2) Compositing done in AFX (in 1280 x 720 @ 24FPS )
3) When compositing is done QT MOV is generated (Animation codec with no compression 1280 x 720 @ 24fps / square pixel)
4) Create a new PRJ in PremierePro res:1280×720 pixel ratio:1.0 @ 24FPS
5) Amazingly PremierePro lets me edit these HD clips in realtime with no slowing down what so ever (on a Dual-Dualcore Opteron system with Raptor Drive and 4Gb Ram) even with 14 tracks stereo audio.. I don’t see any slowing down.
6) Then when all the editing is done we render the timeline @ 1280×720/square pixel/24fps (This file becomes our Master)
7) bring this back into After Effects do 3:2 pulldown if it going to NTSC and letterbox it and so on.

Unfortunately the little app did not find any gamma tag in my QT files.
And as I investigated , I found out that it has nothing to do with encoding process nor is there something wrong with the quicktime file.

The problem (in my case) was related to the DirectDraw (DirectX) acceleration. In the QT preference tab, I turn those off and used the GDI method instead. And everything looked fine. But the playback is not smooth (on a Dual-Dualcore XP machine with 4GB Ram and Raptor Drive)

So for now I have decided to turn back on the acceleration and
put up with the washed out pics.

I am not sure our MacPro’s HDDs are fast enough but
it’s good to know that QT Anim codec works in FCP.

And also like bodgetastic mentioned, if importing of
image sequences can be done easily in FCP, we’d love
to try to work that way. All our 3D renders are done
in image sequences, so it would save us some time
generating QTs for NLE.

Anyhow thanks again to you all.
And I’ll let you know how the trasition
(from Premiere Pro to FCP) goes.

I have decide not to worry too much about the power
and the stability issue.

I hope my Enermax Liberty 500AWT qualify
as a decent power supply unit.

The thing that made me hesitant to get the internal HDD
was the fact that I only have 500W power supply.

Well I guess 500W would be sufficient for most
configurations.

However I am running 2x Opteron 275s dualcore +
Quadro 3450 + two HDDs already.

So I was worrying what if …by adding another
HDD would make my system unstable.

Inadequate power supply = unstable, right?

So before I click that “Place your Order”
button can anybody confirm that
it is OK to add another HDD to my system?

Hello Vincent,
First of all, Thank you for your suggestions.

Yes, I always keep my start-up items and running services to be
absolute minimal.

The only things I have left running are
-Adobe Gamma
-Wacom Tablet,
-Nvidia Manager
-Nividia Taskbar controal Pannel

But like you suggested, I will try how it runs
with all of them off (beside the Wacom,
I can’t remove this since I am working
99% time with Wacom. If Wacom is the
cause of the crash, I have a serious problem)

Well I don’t work much with any kind of footages at all.
I do 3d animation work, and animatic-storyboard stage is
where I use premiere Pro.

When I first started, I never thought my timeline sequence
would become as complex as what I am working on now,
But as the project grew, and as I put more details, now
I have like 6-7 video tracks and about 10+ audio tracks.

Video is running at 960×540 with many different sources,
(PSD with alpha, JPG, BMP, AVI from my digital camera,
WAV , MP3 and MOV with animation codec…. so on)
and most of these are MOTION+OPACITY keyframed heavily.
(but no FX, not even a single clip)

As you can see I am pushing PrmierePro to its limit,
and PremierePro has been working amazingly well.
I mean it’s like a RELTIME after effects !!!

And my only complaint is the crashes I get from
nested timeline compositions.

But like I said in my previous post,
even with regular crashes, I am happy with
this amazing PremierePro.
I guess I was just trying to be happier… 🙂

Well I just figured out why.

Somehow my pre & post roll pref setting was at 0
and that’s why I was getting no playback at all.

And like you said previewing in the trim monitor
is a bit awkward. So I kept the post & pre roll
setting at Zero and now I am previewing from the
main time line. I think it works beautifully
for me.

Wow! Thank you all for your help!

Yes, by setting the timeline to ‘audio units’
it worked perfectly.

It would have been nice if the audio clips can
still move freely in frames mode.
(…Maybe in the future version?) For now I am
more than happy to change modes.

And maybe I can assign a toggle shortcut key,
sice I know I’ll be going in and out of the
‘audio units’ mode a lot.
