The problem happened with me yesterday and I’ve yet to fix it. Can you guys who have this problem list any specifics about your systems?

Here’s what I have that may or may not be related:

    – Blackmagic Design Decklink HD Plus w/ 5.7 drivers
    – ATI Radeon 9600
    – I have MetaSAN intalled and running
    – Microsoft Office 2004
    – Flip4Mac WMV
    – Sorenson Video Pro Codecs

Also, I removed all the plugins and that didn’t help.

My first machine I tried, FCP will no long open after I installed the update. It just tells me a closed unexpectedly.

Tried permissions, preferences, all the usual. No go. Be careful with this update.

September 26, 2006 at 9:40 pm in reply to: DVC Pro 50 out of sync… Urgent …

I suggest renting a different VTR. I capture DV50 tapes with an AJ-HD1200A all the time and have never had any issues like this.

In the meantime, contact Panasonic and have your deck serviced. This sounds like faulty hardware and not Final Cut’s fault. Something is wrong with the Firewire bus on your VTR. Probably a defective batch of these VTRs were let loose.

The problem with it is that it has no high-speed I/O bus for external devices. There’s no Firewire 800, and there’s no Cardbus slots. So you could never add SATA drives or a theoretical Fiberchannel card or anything like that. You’re limited to Firewire400 drives. This is fine for standard-def, DV and offline quality editing. But for Uncompressed editing, this won’t cut it.

The MB pro does not have DVI out. The MB Extreme does.

LumiereHD will convert any Quicktime movie to m2t.

Also, the Apple Firewire SDK, which is free, comes with some DVHS tools. So that might have something that can convert to .m2t as well.

Well it sort of makes sense. You don’t have to spend time being selective while you’re renting. But then you can be selective with your DV dubs while not renting.

But I wouldn’t consider those DV tapes legitamate “backups”. They are downconverted and they are DV. Offline quality. I don’t know what your delivery requirements are, but it shouldn’t DV. When you redigitize, you want to capture it from the actual HD masters at the best possible quality. Even if you still want to downcovert because it’s an SD delivery, you want to do it Uncompressed, not DV.

[MrVideo] “Sonnet has stated that they still do not have driver for their SATA card line for the MacPro.”

Ahhh, I misunderstood the post. It sounded like he thought Sonnet cards didn’t support disk drives that are SATA II.

I’m sure Mac Pro drivers will be available shortly.

Try the free way first. If that doesn’t work, Lumiere does work. And if you don’t want to convert it, I think you can import and edit these MPEGs as HDV files. They’re essentially identical to JVC 720p HDV to my understanding.

[walter biscardi] “That’s definitely not something I would recommend. A single QT file for color correction? Even in a project that has as few as 20 shots would be a huge hassle to color correct. Make it more realistic like 100 shots and you’ve got a complete headache.”

Good point. But what about adding markers before exporting?
