Not going to work I’m afraid… DVHS is an MPEG stream, and not supported in FCP.

You could take the analog outs though to a transcoding device (DV camera or deck) or capture card, and capture it that way I’d think… Use non controllable device as a device control, and then capture it much the same way as you would from a VHS machine.

Thanks, somebody at the station I work at said that “DVHS Cap” is a program that may work. Anybody ever used it?

It might work, but it would still be an MPEG stream that FCP wouldnt know what to do with. Im pretty sure you would have to transcode to another codec.

The analog solution may look fantastic if you are going to standard def anyway.

I think you can use lumiere hd and convert to any QT format after capture.

You need to download the firewire sdk from apple (where dvhscap resides)

Then capture your clips and run them through the free and very powerful mpeg streamclip software.

You can convert to any format quickly, effectively, and best of all for free.

Try the free way first. If that doesn’t work, Lumiere does work. And if you don’t want to convert it, I think you can import and edit these MPEGs as HDV files. They’re essentially identical to JVC 720p HDV to my understanding.
