Thanks, Steve. I had done that, but as it turns out it was the Waveshell.dll file that was causing the hangup. I’ve got queries in to both Sony and Waves to see if we can figure out why that would happen.

Okay. Anywhere else I might look to see where this bottleneck might lie?

Sync offset is at 12 (2 frames more than I needed with Vegas 8, btw). Sync is good most of the time and doesn’t drift. It just seems to get temporarily lost when I’m doing a lot of editing. Could be that I need to finally start looking into upgrading to a 64-bit OS to really get the best real-time performance.

True, not a major concern since it doesn’t affect rendering. Still, it’s obviously disconcerting to my clients when playback after an edit is so frequently out of sync. Also interesting that the problem is only with Vegas, and none of my other software.

My apologies to Sony. The problem was due to some unexplained alterations to my BIOS settings that created voltage and memory speed mismatches, and consequently overheating. Interesting that the problem so consistently manifested itself when dealing with m4V files. Wonder if their compression scheme requires more CPU cycles than others? Anyway, all is well and I’ll be having a chat with ADK tomorrow to figure out how my MB spontaneously changed its settings.

Well, I can’t find any NVIDIA SATA drivers. Looks like mine is an Intel driver. And, interestingly, “Automatically Restart” wasn’t checked in my preferences. Back to the drawing board. Can you tell me where the crash logs are stored?

Thanks for the suggestions, Steve. I’ll have to check into how well Windows 7 is playing with SAWStudio(my DAW of choice for audio work), and my RME HDSP system. The system is very efficient and stable for SS right now, but if all indicators for Windows 7 look good, I may go for it.

Hmm, some of the crashes have briefly flashed a blue screen. I’ve always been a little suspicious of my NVIDIA video drivers, but hadn’t given any thought to the SATA drivers. And I hadn’t experienced these crashes until this project using SVP 10. Thanks, I’ll take a look at everything you mentioned here.

Thanks, guys. Just updated to 10.0d so I’ll see if this buggy project runs any smoother.

No, I just got an automated response, with a case number, that stated “your question has been received,” along with a link to view my question. I just looked at it, and added “waiting for a response” to the question field and submitted it again. Pretty convoluted, I must say.
